MG MGS9 PHEV
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your MGS9 PHEV+−
The MG MGS9 PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Charging
the MG MGS9 PHEV.
The MGS9 PHEV is MG's large seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, arriving in the UK from March 2026. It carries a 24.7kWh LFP battery (around 23.2kWh usable) alongside its petrol engine, and connects to a Type 2 inlet for AC charging. The cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead, used at home wallboxes and public AC points. There is no DC rapid charging port on this car.
MG's UK specification puts AC charging at a maximum of 7kW single-phase. Some market brochures reference 11kW, but the UK figure to plan around is 7kW. Topping up the battery regularly, particularly on short trips, is where a PHEV like the MGS9 earns the most in fuel savings.
No DC rapid charging. AC only, up to around 7kW on a UK single-phase wallbox. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the MGS9 PHEV need?
The MGS9 PHEV's onboard charger is rated at up to 7kW on a single-phase supply, which is exactly what a standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable delivers. That is the right cable for this car: it maximises what the MGS9 can actually accept and costs less than a 22kW three-phase option that would make no difference here.
Because this car has no DC rapid charging, the Type 2 cable is the only charging lead you will use. A 5m cable is fine for most home setups. If your driveway is longer or your wallbox is mounted at some distance from where you park, a 7m lead gives you comfortable reach without needing to reposition the car.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 24.7kWh battery from empty costs roughly £2 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £7 at a standard rate of around 27p. A PHEV battery is small enough to charge fully every night without much thought. The more often you charge, the less petrol you burn, which is where the running-cost benefit comes from. Always check current tariffs.

MG MGS9 PHEV FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the MG MGS9 PHEV need?+−
The MG MGS9 PHEV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7kW.
Can the MG MGS9 PHEV charge at 22kW?+−
No, the MG MGS9 PHEV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the MGS9 PHEV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for all charging. The MGS9 has no DC rapid charging capability, so this is the only lead you will use. Its onboard charger is rated at up to 7kW on a UK single-phase supply, making a standard 7.4kW cable the correct and most cost-effective choice.
Can the MGS9 PHEV rapid charge?+−
No. The MGS9 PHEV does not have a DC rapid charging port and cannot use public rapid chargers. All charging is via the Type 2 AC inlet at up to around 7kW. Topping up at home overnight or during a working day is how this car is designed to be charged.
How long does the MGS9 PHEV take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 24.7kWh battery takes roughly 3.5 hours from empty to full. On a 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW it would take around 10 to 11 hours. Given the relatively small battery, a wallbox makes the charging window very convenient.
What length cable do I need for the MGS9 PHEV?+−
A 5m cable covers most home driveways and parking areas comfortably. Because this is a larger seven-seat SUV, give some thought to where the charging port sits relative to your wallbox and whether you usually park nose-in or reverse-in, then choose 7m or 10m if the port tends to end up on the far side.
