Why this fits your ZS EV+

The MG ZS EV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which MG ZS EV versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every MG ZS EV, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • MG ZS EV SE
  • MG ZS EV Trophy
  • MG ZS EV Trophy Connect

Whichever ZS EV trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the MG ZS EV.

The MG ZS EV facelift covers the updated generation of MG's popular electric SUV, sold in the UK from 2021 to 2024 before being replaced by the MGS5 EV. Two battery options were available: a 51.1kWh LFP Standard Range and a 72.6kWh Long Range, both with a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid charging. The cable you use for home and public AC sessions is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The ZS EV facelift's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, though on a typical UK single-phase home supply it delivers around 7kW in practice. DC rapid charging runs at up to 76kW on the Standard Range and around 92kW on the Long Range, using the rapid charger's tethered cable.

UK single-phase supplies deliver around 7kW to this car regardless of trim or battery size. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the ZS EV need?

At home on a standard single-phase supply, the ZS EV facelift charges at around 7kW, which is the ceiling your household connection allows regardless of the cable rating. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable delivers the full speed available on a typical home wallbox and costs less than a 22kW three-phase option that would offer no benefit on a single-phase supply.

If you regularly plug in at 22kW public AC points, the ZS EV facelift can draw closer to its full 11kW on three phases, so a 22kW cable has some practical value in that specific situation. For the majority of owners charging at home, the 7.4kW cable is the sensible and sufficient choice.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 72.6kWh Long Range from empty costs roughly £5 to £6 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £20 on a standard rate of around 27p. The smaller 51kWh Standard Range costs proportionally less, around £4 off-peak. Home charging on a cheap overnight tariff keeps running costs very low. Public rapid charging is typically far more expensive per kWh. Check current tariffs, as they change regularly.

Contact us
What charging cable does the MG ZS EV need?+

The MG ZS EV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

Can the MG ZS EV charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the MG ZS EV has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the MG ZS EV facelift need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The ZS EV facelift has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a UK single-phase home supply it charges at around 7kW. A 7.4kW cable gives you the full home charging speed; a 22kW cable only adds value if you regularly use three-phase public AC points.

Can the MG ZS EV facelift charge at 22kW?+

No. The onboard charger is rated at 11kW, not 22kW, so the car cannot charge at 22kW regardless of the cable or charger used. On a three-phase public AC point it can pull up to 11kW; on a standard UK single-phase home it is limited to around 7kW.

How long does the MG ZS EV facelift take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 72.6kWh Long Range takes around 10 to 11 hours from empty, easily covered overnight. The 51kWh Standard Range takes around 7 to 8 hours. A 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW would take considerably longer and is best reserved for emergencies.

What length cable do I need for the MG ZS EV facelift?+

A 5m cable is the standard choice and works well for most home driveways. If your wallbox is mounted away from where the charging port ends up, or your parking space is unusually long, a 7m cable gives extra reach. A 10m lead suits more complex parking layouts.
