NIO EL6
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your EL6+−
The NIO EL6 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which NIO EL6 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every NIO EL6, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- NIO EL6 Long Range
- NIO EL6 Standard Range
Whichever EL6 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

Charging
the NIO EL6.
The NIO EL6 is a large, premium electric SUV from the Chinese brand NIO, which began its European rollout in 2024. It carries a 90kWh usable battery (drawn from a 100kWh pack on the Long Range version) and connects to the European charging infrastructure via a Type 2 AC inlet and a CCS port for DC rapid charging. Note that UK right-hand-drive availability had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so the specifications here are based on the European market car. The Type 2 inlet means the standard cable for home and public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The EL6's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, which is above the 7.4kW ceiling of a typical UK single-phase home supply. DC rapid charging supports up to around 180kW, which the charger's own tethered cable handles. For the AC charging you do day to day, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead, and whether you see the full 11kW depends on your supply.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the EL6 need?
On a standard UK single-phase home supply, the EL6 charges at 7.4kW regardless of whether you use a 7.4kW or 22kW cable. The 11kW onboard charger can only reach its rated speed on a three-phase supply, which most UK homes do not have. For home use, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is straightforward and gives the full speed your driveway can provide.
If you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, or you have a three-phase supply at home or at your workplace, a 22kW three-phase cable lets the EL6 draw its full 11kW. On any single-phase connection, the bigger cable makes no difference to charge speed. A 5m length suits most scenarios, though a 7m lead adds flexibility if the charge point and the car's port are further apart.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 90kWh battery from empty costs roughly £6.75 on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £24 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. In practice, most owners charge from a partial state rather than empty, keeping day-to-day costs well below those figures. Public rapid charging is considerably dearer, often 45p to 80p per kWh, so it is best kept for longer journeys. Check current tariff rates, as they change regularly.

NIO EL6 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the NIO EL6 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The EL6's onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW on three phases. For most UK home setups on a single-phase supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the maximum speed available. Choose a 22kW three-phase cable only if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points.
Can the NIO EL6 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The EL6's onboard AC charger is limited to 11kW on three phases, so it cannot draw 22kW even on a 22kW supply. On a standard UK single-phase home supply, it charges at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable adds no speed unless you have a three-phase supply and need the cable to meet a 22kW charger.
How long does the NIO EL6 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 90kWh battery takes around 12 to 13 hours from empty. On a three-phase supply at 11kW that drops to around 8 to 9 hours. Most owners charge from a partial level overnight, which comfortably restores range well before morning.
What length cable do I need for the NIO EL6?+−
A 5m cable covers most home driveways and public charge bays. For driveways where the wallbox is mounted some distance from where the car parks, or where the port is on the far side of the vehicle, a 7m lead is more comfortable. A 10m cable is worth considering if your setup is particularly spread out.
