NIO EL7
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your EL7+−
The NIO EL7 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which NIO EL7 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every NIO EL7, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- NIO EL7 Long Range
- NIO EL7 Standard Range
Whichever EL7 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

Charging
the NIO EL7.
The NIO EL7 (formerly known as the ES7) is a flagship-sized electric SUV from NIO, available in European markets since 2022. It is a large, six-seat SUV carrying a 90kWh usable battery on the Long Range version, with DC rapid charging at up to around 180kW via CCS. AC charging at home and at public wallboxes uses a Type 2 inlet, the standard European connector. At the time of writing, the EL7 was available in European left-hand-drive markets but had not been confirmed for UK right-hand-drive sale, so specifications here reflect the European model.
The cable you need for day-to-day AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The EL7's onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases. That is above what a standard UK single-phase home supply can deliver, so most UK owners will see 7.4kW at home. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable and is not something you purchase separately.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the EL7 need?
The EL7's 11kW onboard charger requires a three-phase supply to reach its rated speed. Most UK homes run on a single phase, which limits AC charging to 7.4kW whatever cable is fitted. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the practical choice for home use, delivering the full speed a standard UK wallbox can provide without overspending on a three-phase lead you may not be able to use.
A 22kW three-phase cable is worth considering if you plan to regularly use 22kW public AC charge points or have access to a three-phase supply at home or at work. In those circumstances the EL7 will pull its full 11kW. On a single-phase connection, the 22kW cable adds no extra speed. A 5m lead is a sensible starting point; 7m is available if your particular parking arrangement leaves a tighter margin.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 90kWh battery from empty costs roughly £6.75 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £24 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The EL7 is a large car with a large battery, so charging from empty to full at home is an overnight job. Keeping a high daily charge state, or topping up regularly rather than running down, makes the cost per journey lower and more predictable. Check current tariff rates before estimating your bills.

NIO EL7 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the NIO EL7 charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the NIO EL7 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the NIO EL7 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The EL7's AC charger supports up to 11kW on three phases. On a standard UK single-phase home supply a 7.4kW cable gives the maximum available speed. A 22kW three-phase cable is only useful with a three-phase supply or on a 22kW public AC charger.
Can the NIO EL7 charge at 11kW at home?+−
Only with a three-phase home supply, which is unusual in the UK. On a standard single-phase supply the EL7 is limited to 7.4kW, regardless of the cable or wallbox rating. If you do have a three-phase supply and a compatible wallbox, the EL7 will draw its full 11kW.
How long does the NIO EL7 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 90kWh battery takes around 12 to 13 hours from empty, making overnight charging the norm. With a three-phase supply at 11kW that falls to around 8 to 9 hours. Most owners will top up from a partial charge rather than empty, which is faster.
What length cable do I need for the NIO EL7?+−
A 5m cable works for most standard driveways and public charge bays. Given the EL7's size, if your wallbox is on the wall furthest from where the car parks, or the port is on the far side of the vehicle, a 7m lead is the more comfortable choice. Measure your driveway if in doubt.
