Why this fits your ET5+

The NIO ET5 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which NIO ET5 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every NIO ET5, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • NIO ET5 Long Range
  • NIO ET5 Standard Range
  • NIO ET5 Touring Long Range
  • NIO ET5 Touring Standard Range

Whichever ET5 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the NIO ET5.

The NIO ET5 is a mid-size electric saloon that launched in European markets in 2022, offering a sleeker, sportier body style than NIO's SUV lineup. The Long Range version carries a 90kWh usable battery, giving strong touring range. Like other NIO models, it uses a Type 2 AC inlet for everyday charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to around 140kW. Note that UK right-hand-drive availability had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so the specifications below reflect the European market car.

For home wallboxes and public AC points, the ET5 takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW on three phases. DC rapid charging, at up to around 140kW, uses the charger's tethered cable. The ET5 comes in Standard Range and Long Range versions, and the Touring variants add a larger load-carrying body. The 90kWh Long Range pack is the better-known configuration in Europe.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the ET5 need?

The ET5's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases. In a typical UK home with a single-phase supply, the practical ceiling is 7.4kW, and a standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is all that is needed. The cable rating does not determine the charge speed: the car's onboard charger and the supply together set the limit, and single-phase caps that at 7.4kW.

A 22kW three-phase cable makes sense if you have three-phase power available, such as in some commercial premises, workshops, or newer home installations, or if you regularly charge at 22kW public AC points. In those cases the ET5 will charge at its full 11kW. On any ordinary UK home supply, the charge speed is identical whether you use a 7.4kW or a 22kW cable. A 5m lead covers most parking arrangements; choose 7m if the car and the wallbox tend to be further apart.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 90kWh Long Range battery from empty costs roughly £6.75 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £24 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The Standard Range pack is smaller and cheaper to fill per session. For a saloon used mainly for commuting and weekend trips, overnight charging on an off-peak tariff is the most cost-effective approach. Check current tariff rates, as these change regularly.

Contact us
Can the NIO ET5 charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the NIO ET5 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the NIO ET5 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The ET5's onboard charger supports up to 11kW on three phases. For most UK homes on a single-phase supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. A 22kW three-phase cable is only useful with a three-phase supply or at 22kW public AC chargers.

Can the NIO ET5 charge at 11kW at home?+

Only on a three-phase supply, which is rare in UK homes. On a standard single-phase wallbox the ET5 charges at 7.4kW, the same limit that applies to most electric cars on UK driveways. A three-phase supply unlocks the full 11kW, but for most owners 7.4kW overnight is perfectly practical.

How long does the NIO ET5 take to charge at home?+

With the 90kWh Long Range battery and a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, a full charge from empty takes around 12 to 13 hours. On three-phase at 11kW that shortens to about 8 to 9 hours. Because saloon drivers tend to charge regularly rather than running to empty, daily top-ups are usually much quicker.

What length cable do I need for the NIO ET5?+

A 5m cable is the go-to choice for home use and most public charge bays. For driveways where the wallbox is set well back from the car, or the car's port is on the far side relative to where you park, a 7m lead avoids any awkward reach. A 10m cable is available if your setup is particularly spread out.
