Nissan Townstar EV
Charging cable
The Townstar EV is 11kW three-phase as standard. The optional 22kW charger charges faster on a three-phase supply. The 22kW cable is the right one either way.
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Townstar EV+−
The Nissan Townstar EV has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Nissan Townstar EV versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Nissan Townstar EV, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Nissan Townstar EV Passenger
- Nissan Townstar EV Passenger L2
Whichever Townstar EV trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Nissan Townstar EV.
The Nissan Townstar EV is a compact electric van built on the same platform as the Renault Kangoo E-Tech and Mercedes eCitan. Sold from 2022, it carries a 45kWh battery with a DC rapid charging speed of up to 80kW via CCS. It is available in standard Passenger and long-wheelbase Passenger L2 variants. For AC charging at depots, home installations, or public points, the Townstar EV uses a standard Type 2 inlet and takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.
The standard Townstar EV is fitted with an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger, and on higher-specification variants a 22kW option is available. This makes the AC cable choice more meaningful for fleet operators who charge at a three-phase depot supply. For DC rapid charging at up to 80kW, the rapid charger's own tethered CCS cable is used. For all AC charging, the cable is one you bring yourself.
The Townstar EV's AC charge speed depends on whether your supply is single-phase (7.4kW max) or three-phase (up to 11kW standard, or 22kW on compatible trims). Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Townstar EV need?
Fleet operators and depot managers should check which onboard charger their Townstar EV trim is fitted with. The standard 11kW unit is common and requires a three-phase supply to reach its rated speed. With a three-phase depot supply and a 22kW rated cable, the standard 11kW charger will draw 11kW. On a single-phase supply, the limit is 7.4kW no matter the cable rating. Trims with the optional 22kW charger can draw up to 22kW on a three-phase supply with a 22kW cable, roughly halving charge time compared with a single-phase top-up.
For drivers running the Townstar EV from a home base rather than a depot, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable on a single-phase home wallbox will work but takes around six hours to fill the battery. A 5m cable handles most home and depot charge point layouts comfortably, though a 7m or 10m lead is worth considering in larger yards where the charge post may be several metres from where the van parks.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 45kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3.40 at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £12 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. For a depot or fleet setting, overnight charging on an off-peak tariff is usually the most cost-effective approach. Public rapid charging is significantly more expensive per kWh and is best kept for routes where overnight charging is not possible. Check current tariff rates for accurate budgeting.

Nissan Townstar EV FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Nissan Townstar EV need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for wallboxes and AC public or depot charge points. The standard onboard charger is rated at 11kW on three phases; some trims support an optional 22kW charger. A 22kW rated cable suits three-phase depot charging and is needed to reach full speed on the 22kW option. On a single-phase supply any cable tops out at 7.4kW.
Can the Nissan Townstar EV charge at 22kW?+−
Only on trims fitted with the optional 22kW onboard charger, and only when connected to a three-phase supply with a 22kW rated cable. The standard 11kW charger tops out at 11kW on three phases, or 7.4kW on single-phase. Check the specification sheet for your particular van to confirm which charger is fitted.
How long does the Nissan Townstar EV take to charge?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 45kWh battery takes around six hours from empty. On a three-phase supply with the 11kW charger it takes around four hours. With the optional 22kW charger on a three-phase supply, a full charge takes around two hours. Overnight charging from a depot covers any of these scenarios.
What length cable do I need for the Nissan Townstar EV?+−
A 5m cable suits most home driveways and compact depot layouts. In larger yards where the charge post is set further back, a 7m or 10m lead is more practical and avoids having to manoeuvre the van precisely. For fleet use, measuring the distance from charge post to the van's charging port before buying is worthwhile.
