Charging
your Ora.
Ora's current UK model is the Ora 03, a compact electric hatchback also known as the Funky Cat. The Ora 03 uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, the standard connector on UK home wallboxes and public AC charge points, so it takes the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable as the majority of EVs on sale here.
The Ora 03 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, which means on the right supply it can accept more than a standard UK single-phase home provides. In practice, the speed you get at home depends on your supply, not the car. Pick the model below to see exact charging times and a cable recommendation, or read the guidance underneath.
What charging cable does a Ora need?
The Ora 03 uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and wallboxes; choose 7m or 10m for on-street parking or when the socket is set some distance from the charging port.
The Ora 03 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Almost all UK homes run on a single phase, which caps AC charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable. A 7.4kW cable gives the full speed available on a standard home supply. A 22kW cable is only worth the extra cost if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly charge at 22kW public AC points, where the Ora 03 will pull up to 11kW.
For most owners, a single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the practical and cost-effective choice for the Ora 03.
What type of charging cable does the Ora 03 (Funky Cat) use?+−
The Ora 03 uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, the standard connector on UK home wallboxes and public AC charge points. You need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. No Type 1 cable is needed.
What charging cable does an Ora 03 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The Ora 03 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase UK home it charges at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable gives the full speed available at home. A 22kW cable only earns its cost on a three-phase supply or at a 22kW public AC point.
Can the Ora 03 charge at 22kW on AC?+−
No. The Ora 03 tops out at 11kW on AC, and only achieves that on a three-phase supply. On a standard single-phase UK home supply it charges at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable would deliver no more than 11kW to this car, and only on a three-phase supply.
Is the Ora 03 the only Ora model in the UK?+−
Based on current UK listings, yes. The Ora range currently consists of one model in the UK, the Ora 03 (also sold as the Funky Cat). If further models arrive with different inlets or charger ratings, the recommendation for those models may differ.
What length charging cable do I need for the Ora 03?+−
5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Go for 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger with another vehicle, or your wallbox is set some distance from the charging port. Longer cables are heavier to coil, so choose the shortest length that comfortably reaches.
