Polestar 1
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your 1+−
The Polestar 1 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Charging
the Polestar 1.
The Polestar 1 is a low-volume grand touring coupe produced from 2019 to 2021, sold in small numbers in the UK as a right-hand-drive model. Unlike later Polestars, it is a plug-in hybrid combining a combustion engine with electric motors and a 34kWh gross battery for a claimed 60-plus miles of electric-only range. It connects to home wallboxes and public AC charge points through a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you use for AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases, making it one of the faster AC charging PHEVs of its era. It also supports DC rapid charging at up to 50kW via a CCS port, using the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you supply.
The Polestar 1 is a PHEV. Its 34kWh battery covers the electric range; the combustion engine extends total range beyond that. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the 1 need?
The Polestar 1 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, which is genuinely useful at public three-phase AC points or on a rare three-phase home supply. At those locations a 22kW rated cable allows the car to draw its full 11kW, cutting charge time compared with a 7.4kW cable at the same point.
However, the majority of UK homes have a single-phase supply, capped at 7.4kW. On a standard home wallbox, both a 7.4kW and a 22kW cable deliver exactly 7.4kW to the Polestar 1. At 7.4kW the 34kWh battery takes roughly 4.5 hours from empty, which is manageable for an overnight or daytime charge. If you regularly park at three-phase public AC points, the 22kW cable earns its keep; for home-only charging, the 7.4kW cable is the practical, cost-effective choice.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 34kWh battery from empty costs roughly £3 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £9 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a PHEV, many owners will top up the battery regularly rather than filling it from empty, so actual costs per session are often lower. Keeping it charged overnight maximises electric-only running and reduces fuel spend. Check current tariffs, as rates vary.

Polestar 1 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Polestar 1 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The onboard charger handles up to 11kW on three phases. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox a 7.4kW cable gives the full available speed. If you use three-phase public AC points regularly, a 22kW cable lets the car reach its 11kW maximum there.
Can the Polestar 1 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The Polestar 1's onboard charger tops out at 11kW on three phases. A 22kW cable can deliver up to 11kW to the car at a three-phase point, but no more than the onboard charger allows. On a single-phase UK home supply, charging is limited to 7.4kW regardless of cable rating.
How long does the Polestar 1 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 34kWh battery takes around 4.5 to 5 hours from empty. On a three-phase supply at 11kW, that drops to around 3 hours. Most owners plug in each evening and wake to a full battery without needing a fast DC rapid stop.
Is the Polestar 1 fully electric?+−
No. The Polestar 1 is a plug-in hybrid. Its 34kWh battery powers the electric motors for an estimated 60-plus miles of electric range, after which the combustion engine takes over. It is quite different from the Polestar 2, 3, 4, and 5, which are all fully electric.
