Polestar 2
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your 2+−
The Polestar 2 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Polestar 2 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Polestar 2, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor
- Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor
- Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor
- Polestar 2 Performance Pack
Whichever 2 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Polestar 2.
The Polestar 2 is a fully electric fastback available in the UK since 2020, offered across Standard Range, Long Range Single Motor, and Long Range Dual Motor variants. Battery sizes vary across the range: the Standard Range uses a 69kWh LFP pack, while Long Range versions carry a larger pack that grew to around 82kWh in a 2023 facelift. All connect through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for rapid DC, so the cable you use at home and at public AC points is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases across the range. DC rapid charging capability improved significantly with the facelift: earlier Long Range models charge at up to around 155kW, while post-2023 versions reach up to 205kW. Rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable, not one you provide.
The Polestar 2 charges at up to 11kW AC on a three-phase supply; most UK home wallboxes are single-phase and cap at 7.4kW. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the 2 need?
The Polestar 2 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, so the cable choice depends on your supply type. On a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, capped at 7.4kW, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full speed your installation can offer. There is no charging speed advantage from spending more on a 22kW cable if your home is on single-phase power.
At a three-phase public AC charger, the Polestar 2 can draw its full 11kW, and for that a 22kW rated cable is needed. If you regularly use three-phase public AC points, whether at a shopping centre, motorway services, or workplace, the 22kW cable makes sense. For owners who primarily charge at home on a single-phase wallbox, the 7.4kW cable is the practical everyday choice and saves money on the cable itself.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge on the 82kWh Long Range battery from empty costs roughly £6 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £22 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The 69kWh Standard Range works out to roughly £5 off-peak or around £19 at standard rates. An overnight charge on a dedicated EV tariff is the most cost-effective way to run the Polestar 2 day to day. Public rapid DC charging is significantly more expensive and is best used for longer journeys. Check current tariffs, as rates vary.

Polestar 2 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Polestar 2 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The onboard charger handles up to 11kW on three phases. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. If you use three-phase public AC points, a 22kW cable lets the Polestar 2 reach its 11kW maximum there.
Can the Polestar 2 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The Polestar 2's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW maximum, so even with a 22kW cable it cannot charge faster than 11kW. That 11kW is only achievable on a three-phase supply. At a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, the charge rate is capped at 7.4kW regardless of cable.
How long does the Polestar 2 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 82kWh Long Range battery takes around 11 hours from empty, easily covered overnight. The 69kWh Standard Range takes roughly 9.5 hours. On a three-phase supply at 11kW, Long Range charging comes down to around 7.5 hours.
What is the difference between the Polestar 2 Standard Range and Long Range for charging?+−
Both use the same 11kW onboard AC charger and the same Type 2 inlet, so cable choice is identical. The key difference is battery size: 69kWh in the Standard Range versus around 82kWh in the Long Range post-facelift, and DC rapid charging speed: later Long Range models reach up to 205kW versus around 155kW on earlier Long Range versions.
