Polestar 3
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your 3+−
The Polestar 3 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Polestar 3 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Polestar 3, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor
- Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor
- Polestar 3 Performance Pack
- Polestar 3 Launch Edition
- Polestar 3 Plus Pack
- Polestar 3 Pilot Pack
Whichever 3 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Polestar 3.
The Polestar 3 is a large fully electric SUV built on the SPA2 platform, the same architecture underpinning the Volvo EX90. It went on sale in the UK in 2024, initially in Long Range Single and Dual Motor configurations with a 111kWh gross battery. Like all Polestars beyond the original coupe, it connects via a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging. The cable for home wallboxes and public AC points is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases. DC rapid charging is the Polestar 3's headline capability, with the ability to charge at up to 250kW at a compatible ultra-rapid DC station. That DC speed uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable, not one you purchase.
The Polestar 3 charges at up to 11kW AC. Its 111kWh battery means DC rapid charging is far quicker for topping up on long journeys. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the 3 need?
At home, the Polestar 3's large 111kWh battery makes the AC charge rate important: a standard 7.4kW wallbox takes roughly 15 hours to fill from empty, while an 11kW three-phase supply cuts that to around 10 hours. On a single-phase UK home supply, capped at 7.4kW, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the full speed available and is the right everyday cable for most owners.
If you have access to a three-phase supply at home or regularly use three-phase public AC chargers, a 22kW rated cable allows the Polestar 3 to draw its full 11kW there, saving a meaningful amount of time on a battery of this size. Most Polestar 3 owners will lean on DC rapid charging for long-distance top-ups and use home AC charging overnight, in which case the 7.4kW cable handles the daily routine perfectly well.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 111kWh battery from empty on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £8 to £9. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh that rises to around £30. Given the large battery, maximising off-peak overnight charging keeps running costs reasonable. Public rapid DC charging at 250kW is quick but costly per kWh, so a habit of topping up at home overnight pays off on a car this size. Check current tariffs, as rates change.

Polestar 3 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Polestar 3 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The onboard charger is rated at 11kW on three phases. On a single-phase UK home wallbox, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed of 7.4kW. A 22kW cable lets the car draw 11kW at a three-phase public AC charger. Rapid DC charging uses the station's own tethered CCS cable.
Can the Polestar 3 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The Polestar 3's onboard AC charger is capped at 11kW on three phases, so 22kW is not achievable on AC. At a three-phase supply a 22kW cable enables the full 11kW. On a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, the rate is limited to 7.4kW regardless of cable.
How long does the Polestar 3 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 111kWh battery takes around 15 hours from empty. That is best managed by plugging in regularly rather than letting the battery drain fully. On a three-phase supply at 11kW the time drops to roughly 10 hours. For longer journeys, the 250kW DC rapid charging capability is far more practical than AC topping up.
What cable length do I need for the Polestar 3?+−
The Polestar 3 is a large SUV, so the distance from wallbox to charging inlet can be considerable depending on how you park. A 5m cable covers many driveways, but if your wallbox is set back from where the car sits or you park at an angle, a 7m or 10m lead avoids straining the connector. Measure the likely run before choosing.
