Polestar 5
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your 5+−
The Polestar 5 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Polestar 5 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Polestar 5, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Polestar 5 Dual Motor Launch Edition
- Polestar 5 Performance Launch Edition
Whichever 5 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Polestar 5.
The Polestar 5 is a four-door electric GT saloon launched in 2025, representing the brand's flagship in terms of performance and technology. It uses an 800-volt architecture and a 112kWh gross battery, and arrives in Dual Motor and Performance configurations. Like the rest of the Polestar BEV range, it uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging. The cable for home wallboxes and public AC points is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, which handles day-to-day home and destination charging. The Polestar 5's headline charging story is on the DC side: the 800-volt system supports up to 350kW at compatible ultra-rapid chargers, using the charger's own tethered CCS cable.
The Polestar 5's 800V architecture enables very fast DC rapid charging; AC home charging is 11kW three-phase, up to 7.4kW on a standard UK home supply. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the 5 need?
Despite the Polestar 5's 350kW DC capability, AC home charging follows the same rules as any other 11kW car: on a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, capped at 7.4kW, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable gives you the full speed your supply can deliver. There is nothing to gain from a 22kW cable on a single-phase home circuit.
At three-phase public AC points, the Polestar 5's 11kW charger means a 22kW cable allows the car to draw its full 11kW. For most owners, the routine is straightforward: plug into a 7kW home wallbox overnight with a 7.4kW cable, and lean on 350kW DC ultra-rapid charging for motorway journeys. The 22kW cable only earns its premium if you use three-phase public AC points regularly.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge on the 112kWh battery from empty on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £8 to £9. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh that rises to around £30. For a high-performance flagship saloon, getting on an overnight EV tariff and charging regularly rather than from empty makes good economic sense. Public ultra-rapid DC charging is fast but expensive per kWh and is better used for long-distance top-ups than routine filling. Check current tariffs, as rates vary.

Polestar 5 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Polestar 5 charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Polestar 5 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Polestar 5 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The onboard AC charger accepts 11kW on three phases. On a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. A 22kW cable unlocks 11kW at a three-phase public AC point. For DC rapid charging at up to 350kW, the charger uses its own tethered CCS cable.
Can the Polestar 5 charge at 22kW on AC?+−
No. The Polestar 5's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, so 22kW AC is not achievable. A 22kW cable at a three-phase point allows the car to reach 11kW. On a standard UK single-phase home wallbox the rate is limited to 7.4kW regardless of cable or wallbox rating.
How long does the Polestar 5 take to charge at home?+−
On a standard 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 112kWh battery takes roughly 15 hours from empty. Plugging in nightly and keeping the battery between around 20% and 80% means you rarely start from empty. On a three-phase supply at 11kW, a full charge takes around 10 hours. The Polestar 5's 350kW DC rapid charging is the right tool for long trips, not for regular home top-ups.
Does the Polestar 5 use CCS for rapid charging?+−
Yes. The Polestar 5 uses a CCS (Combined Charging System) port for DC rapid charging, capable of up to 350kW at a compatible ultra-rapid DC charger. The rapid charger provides its own tethered cable; you do not need to buy a separate cable for DC charging. The CCS inlet is separate from the Type 2 AC inlet, which is what your purchased cable connects to.
