Why this fits your Panamera E-Hybrid+

The Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid.

The Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid executive saloon that entered production in 2017. It combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery that has grown over successive generations, starting at around 14kWh gross and increasing to roughly 25.9kWh gross in the most recent update. The charging inlet is Type 2, and there is no DC rapid charging capability on any version.

For home charging or public AC stations, you connect via a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The onboard AC charger tops out at 7.4kW on a single phase, so that is the ceiling for how fast the battery fills. Because there is no DC option, the car always charges through the plug-in cable you bring, never through a tethered rapid charger lead.

Battery size varies by model year. Earlier cars carry around 14kWh gross; the updated generation has around 25.9kWh gross. Charge time reflects the battery selected. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Panamera E-Hybrid need?

The Panamera E-Hybrid's onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW single-phase. That matches exactly what a standard UK home wallbox can deliver, so a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right choice and there is no reason to pay more for a 22kW three-phase cable. The car cannot draw more than 7.4kW on AC regardless of what cable or charger is used.

A 5m cable is a comfortable length for most home setups. If your wallbox is set back from where the car sits, or the cable needs to reach around the vehicle to the charging port, adding a 7m lead avoids any strain on the connection. For a car of the Panamera's length, a little extra cable length is rarely wasted.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the larger 25.9kWh gross battery from empty (roughly 21 to 22kWh usable) costs around £2 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £6 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Plugging in regularly and taking advantage of cheap overnight electricity is the most effective way to reduce the running cost of a Panamera E-Hybrid. Check current tariff rates.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid need?+

The Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.

Can the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid charge at 22kW?+

No, the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Panamera E-Hybrid uses a Type 2 inlet and charges on AC only at up to 7.4kW single-phase. There is no DC rapid charging on this model. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable at 5m covers the vast majority of home and public AC charging situations.

Can the Panamera E-Hybrid charge at 22kW?+

No. The onboard AC charger is limited to 7.4kW single-phase, and there is no DC charging capability. A 22kW cable has no benefit on this car. The charger will cap delivery at 7.4kW regardless of the cable rating or type of charger used.

How long does the Panamera E-Hybrid take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox, the larger post-update battery (roughly 22kWh usable) takes around three hours from empty. Earlier models with the smaller 14kWh battery charge in a little under two hours at the same rate. A 3-pin socket is much slower at around 2.3kW and is best kept as a backup option.

What length cable do I need for the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid?+

A 5m cable suits most driveways. The Panamera is a long car, so if your wallbox is positioned some distance from your usual parking spot, or the cable needs to travel around the vehicle, a 7m or 10m lead gives a relaxed, tangle-free connection.
