Why this fits your Captur E-Tech PHEV+

The Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV.

The Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV is a compact crossover plug-in hybrid, on sale in the UK since 2020. It pairs a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a modest 9.8kWh battery. Charging uses a Type 2 inlet and the car has no DC rapid charging capability, so all plug-in charging is AC only.

To charge at home or at a public AC point you use a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The onboard AC charger is rated at 3.7kW single-phase, which is on the lower end for a plug-in hybrid. At that rate the 9.8kWh battery charges from empty in around two and a half hours, making short top-ups straightforward and a full overnight charge effortless.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Captur E-Tech PHEV need?

The Captur E-Tech PHEV charges at a maximum of 3.7kW, so any standard Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 7.4kW will comfortably handle everything the car can draw. There is absolutely no benefit in buying a 22kW cable for this model: the onboard charger cannot use more than 3.7kW, and the battery itself is small enough to fill quickly even at that rate.

A 5m cable is the sensible length for most home setups. The Captur is a compact car, so you rarely need more than 5m unless your wallbox is mounted some distance from where you regularly park. A 7m lead covers most awkward installations.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 9.8kWh battery from empty costs less than £1 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £2.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. With a battery this size, the cost of a full charge is negligible, and plugging in at home every night keeps fuel use very low in everyday driving. Check current tariff rates.

Good
questions.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV need?+

The Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 3.7kW.

Can the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV charge at 22kW?+

No, the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Captur E-Tech PHEV uses a Type 2 inlet and charges on AC only at up to 3.7kW single-phase. There is no DC rapid charging. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is all that is needed for home and public AC charging.

Can the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV use a rapid charger?+

No. The Captur E-Tech PHEV has no DC rapid charging capability. It can only charge via the Type 2 AC inlet at a maximum of 3.7kW. Public AC chargers can be used, but the speed will always be limited to 3.7kW regardless of how fast the charger is rated.

How long does the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV take to charge?+

At 3.7kW from a wallbox or public AC charger, the 9.8kWh battery takes roughly two and a half hours from empty. On a standard 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW it takes closer to four hours. The small battery means even a partial top-up during the day covers a useful amount of electric range.

What length cable do I need for the Renault Captur E-Tech PHEV?+

A 5m cable is sufficient for most driveways and home garages. The Captur is a compact crossover, so 5m reaches comfortably in the majority of setups. If your wallbox is set back from where you park, or the route is awkward, a 7m lead gives useful extra slack.
