Why this fits your Fluence ZE+

The Renault Fluence ZE has a Type 1 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Renault Fluence ZE.

The Renault Fluence Z.E. is an early electric saloon produced from 2012 to 2014. It was originally designed around a battery-swap concept that was never widely deployed, and UK cars charge through a Type 1 inlet at up to 3.7kW on a single phase. There is no DC rapid charging. The 22kWh battery was often supplied under a lease arrangement rather than owned outright.

Because the Fluence Z.E. uses a Type 1 inlet rather than the Type 2 socket found on most modern electric cars, the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 1 lead: Type 2 at the charger end (to connect to the wallbox or public AC point) and Type 1 at the car end. If you are not sure which inlet your specific car has, check the socket on the vehicle before ordering: UK cars are generally Type 1, but it is worth confirming.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Fluence ZE need?

The Fluence Z.E. needs a Type 2 to Type 1 cable, not the Type 2 to Type 2 lead used by most modern electric cars. The Type 1 connector locks into the car's socket and is rated for single-phase AC only. Because the car charges at a maximum of 3.7kW, even a modestly rated cable handles the full speed the onboard charger can accept.

A 5m cable is enough for most home charging setups. Given the slow 3.7kW rate, there is no efficiency gain from a longer cable, but a 7m lead is worth considering if the wallbox is set back from where the car parks, since the Type 1 connector does not flex as freely as a Type 2 and a stretched cable is best avoided.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 22kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1.65 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £6 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. At only 3.7kW the charge is slow by modern standards: a full charge from empty takes around six hours. Overnight charging is the natural fit. Check current tariff rates.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Renault Fluence ZE need?+

The Renault Fluence ZE has a Type 1 inlet, so it needs a Type 1 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 3.7kW.

Can the Renault Fluence ZE charge at 22kW?+

No, the Renault Fluence ZE has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Renault Fluence Z.E. need?+

A Type 2 to Type 1 cable. UK Renault Fluence Z.E. cars have a Type 1 inlet rather than the Type 2 socket used by most modern EVs. You need a cable with a Type 2 plug at the charger end and a Type 1 connector at the car end. Verify your car's inlet before ordering, as specifications varied.

Can the Renault Fluence Z.E. use a rapid charger?+

No. The Fluence Z.E. has no DC rapid charging capability and uses only AC charging via the Type 1 inlet at up to 3.7kW single-phase. Public AC chargers can be used via a Type 2 to Type 1 cable, but the speed is always capped at 3.7kW.

How long does the Renault Fluence Z.E. take to charge?+

At 3.7kW the 22kWh battery takes roughly six hours from empty. On a 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW the same charge takes around nine to ten hours. Overnight charging is the practical approach for regular daily driving.

What length cable do I need for the Renault Fluence Z.E.?+

A 5m Type 2 to Type 1 cable suits most home installations. If your wallbox is at some distance from where you park, or the cable needs to route around the car to reach the charging port, a 7m lead avoids any tension in the connection.
