Why this fits your Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4+

The Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4.

The Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 is Renault's flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, launched in the UK in 2024. It is the only Rafale variant that plugs in: the 150hp and 200hp versions are conventional full hybrids with no charging port. The 300hp 4x4 carries a 22kWh battery and charges through a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you use at a home wallbox or public AC point is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. There is no DC rapid charging on this model.

The Rafale's onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW on a single phase. For most owners, that means the battery can be fully replenished overnight or in a few hours from a home wallbox, giving a useful electric-only range for daily commuting before the petrol engine cuts in on longer runs.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 need?

The Rafale E-Tech 300's onboard charger accepts up to 7.4kW on a single phase. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers everything the charger can handle, filling the 22kWh battery in around three hours from empty. There is no upside to a higher-rated cable: the charger cannot accept more than 7.4kW, and there is no DC rapid port to supplement AC charging.

A 5m Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the right choice for most Rafale owners. The cable works on a home wallbox, a seven-kilowatt public AC post, and most workplace chargers. If your wallbox is set back from your usual parking spot, consider a 7m cable for a relaxed reach. Beyond that, simplicity wins: 7.4kW is the ceiling for this car.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 22kWh battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £1.65. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same charge comes to around £6. Plugging in nightly keeps the electric-only portion of your running cheap. Check current tariffs, as rates change.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 need?+

The Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.

Can the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 charge at 22kW?+

No, the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 4x4 has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 7.4kW. The Rafale's onboard AC charger tops out at 7.4kW on a single phase, so that is the maximum rate any cable can deliver to the car. A 22kW or 11kW cable offers no benefit on this model.

Can the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 use rapid DC charging?+

No. Only the 300hp 4x4 variant has a charging port at all, and it is AC-only via the Type 2 inlet. There is no CCS or CHAdeMO port, so DC rapid charging is not available on any Rafale E-Tech. Charging is done via AC only.

How long does the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300 take to charge?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 22kWh battery charges from empty in around three hours. On a standard three-pin socket the same charge would take around eight hours. Plugging in nightly is the simplest routine, as the battery will be full by morning regardless of when you connect.

What length charging cable do I need for the Renault Rafale E-Tech 300?+

A 5m Type 2 cable suits most driveways and public AC charge posts. If your wallbox is further from your usual parking position, or the inlet ends up on the far side of the car, a 7m lead avoids any awkward stretching and is a practical upgrade for less than the cost of the cable itself.
