Why this fits your Zoe+

The Renault Zoe has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Renault Zoe versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Renault Zoe, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Renault Zoe GT
  • Renault Zoe SE
  • Renault Zoe R90
  • Renault Zoe Play
  • Renault Zoe I Play
  • Renault Zoe Iconic

Whichever Zoe trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Renault Zoe.

The Renault Zoe is Renault's best-known electric hatchback, sold in the UK from 2012 to 2024. The Gen2 (ZE50) version, which covers roughly 2019 onwards, uses a 52kWh battery pack and is rated at around 245 miles WLTP in the most efficient trim. It charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC, and from around 2020 many examples added an optional CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to 50kW. The cable you bring to a home wallbox or public AC point is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The Zoe carries Renault's Chameleon onboard charger, rated at 22kW on three phases on R110 and R135 variants. That is an unusually high AC rate for a hatchback of this size, and it is genuine: a 22kW three-phase cable at a 22kW AC public charge point will have the Zoe charged significantly faster than a 7.4kW cable allows.

The Zoe's 22kW AC charger is one of the fastest in its class. On a 22kW public AC point it makes a real difference to charge time. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Zoe need?

The Zoe is one of the few cars where the choice between a 7.4kW and a 22kW cable genuinely matters. At home on a single-phase wallbox, charging is capped at 7.4kW regardless of the cable, so a 7.4kW lead delivers the full speed your home supply can provide. The 52kWh battery takes around seven hours from empty at that rate, which works well overnight.

Where the Zoe stands apart is at 22kW public AC charge points, which exist on some public networks and in certain workplace or commercial locations with three-phase power. On those points, with a 22kW three-phase cable, the Zoe can draw its full 22kW and cut the charge time to around two to two and a half hours. If you regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, a 22kW cable is a worthwhile upgrade. If you charge almost exclusively at home on a single-phase wallbox, the 7.4kW cable is the practical everyday choice.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 52kWh battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £4. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same full charge comes to around £14. Overnight home charging on a dedicated EV tariff is the most cost-effective routine for a Zoe used daily. Public rapid DC charging at 50kW is much dearer per kWh, so it is best reserved for longer journeys. Check current tariffs as rates change.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Renault Zoe need?+

The Renault Zoe has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 22kW.

Can the Renault Zoe charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Renault Zoe has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 22kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

Does the Renault Zoe Gen2 charge at 22kW?+

Yes, it does. The Zoe's Chameleon onboard charger supports 22kW on three phases, which is unusually fast for a hatchback. To get that rate you need both a three-phase supply or 22kW AC public charge point AND a 22kW rated cable. On a standard single-phase home wallbox, charging is capped at 7.4kW whatever cable you use.

What cable does the Renault Zoe Gen2 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 7.4kW cable is the right choice for home charging on a single-phase wallbox. If you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, a 22kW three-phase cable lets the Zoe draw its full onboard charger capacity and noticeably reduces charge time.

How long does the Renault Zoe Gen2 take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 52kWh battery takes around seven hours from empty, working well on an overnight charge. On a 22kW three-phase AC point with the right cable, charge time drops to around two to two and a half hours. A standard three-pin socket would take around 23 hours and is best avoided for regular use.

Does the Renault Zoe Gen2 support DC rapid charging?+

Some examples do. From around 2020, an optional CCS port allowing DC rapid charging at up to 50kW was offered on certain variants. Earlier Gen2 examples may not have it. Check your specific car: DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered cable rather than one you buy. If your Zoe has no CCS port, all charging is AC-only.
