Charging guide

Charging
your Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce's first electric car, the Spectre, is a battery-electric grand tourer with a 102kWh usable battery and a Type 2 inlet. It stands apart from most EVs in one important way: it has a 22kW three-phase onboard AC charger, the highest AC charging rate currently available in a production car sold in the UK.

That 22kW capability only unlocks its full benefit on a three-phase supply or a 22kW public AC charge point. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox the Spectre charges at 7.4kW, the same as any other EV. Understanding your supply is key to choosing the right cable. Pick your model below for exact charge times and recommendations, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Rolls-Royce need?

The Rolls-Royce Spectre uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m lead suits most driveways and public charge points, while 7m or 10m is worth choosing if the parking space is awkward or if the wallbox sits a significant distance from the car.

The Spectre has a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, making it capable of drawing 22kW at a compatible three-phase supply, which would charge its 102kWh battery in roughly five hours. At home on a standard single-phase wallbox, however, it charges at 7.4kW like any other EV, and a 7.4kW cable is all you need for that. A 22kW rated cable is only worthwhile if you have a three-phase supply installed at home or regularly use 22kW public AC charge points.

If your home has or will have a three-phase supply, a 22kW Type 2 cable makes sense for the Spectre and allows you to use the car's full onboard charger. On a single-phase home, a 7.4kW cable delivers exactly what the supply can provide.

What charging cable does a Rolls-Royce Spectre need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. On a standard single-phase home supply a 7.4kW cable is the right choice, as the Spectre charges at 7.4kW on single phase. A 22kW cable only earns its cost if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, where the Spectre can draw its full 22kW.

Does the Rolls-Royce Spectre use a Type 2 inlet?+

Yes. The Spectre uses a standard Type 2 inlet for AC charging, the same connector used across almost all EVs sold in the UK. It does not need a Type 1 cable or any unusual adapter for AC charging.

Can the Rolls-Royce Spectre charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Spectre has a 22kW three-phase onboard charger, which is the maximum for any current production car. It can draw 22kW at a three-phase supply or a 22kW public AC point. On a standard single-phase UK home the maximum is 7.4kW, regardless of the cable used.

How long does it take to charge the Rolls-Royce Spectre?+

On a single-phase 7.4kW home wallbox, a full charge from near-empty takes around 14 hours for the 102kWh battery. On a three-phase 22kW supply that falls to roughly five hours. DC rapid charging supports up to 195kW, which can add significant range in 20 to 30 minutes.

What length cable do I need for the Rolls-Royce Spectre?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. The Spectre is a large car, so consider where the Type 2 inlet is positioned on the vehicle relative to your parking spot. A 7m cable is worth choosing if the wallbox is further away or if you want useful slack for hotel and destination charging.
