Why this fits your Superb iV+

The Skoda Superb iV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Skoda Superb iV.

The Skoda Superb iV was the plug-in hybrid version of Skoda's premium large car, sold in the UK between 2019 and 2023. Available as both an estate and a saloon, it pairs a petrol engine with a 10.4kWh usable electric battery. The charging inlet is Type 2 for AC, and the car has no DC rapid charging port, so the cable you provide covers all of its charging requirements.

Plugging in at home or at a public AC point calls for a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Superb iV's onboard charger operates at up to 3.6kW on a single phase, which is a relatively modest rate but suited to a battery of this size. You cannot charge it at a rapid DC station.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Superb iV need?

The Superb iV's onboard charger draws at most 3.6kW, so the cable rating barely matters in practice. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable will supply well above what the car can draw, and there is no version of a 22kW cable that will make this car charge faster. Buy any quality 7.4kW lead and it will serve the Superb iV perfectly.

Because there is no DC option on this car, the Type 2 cable handles everything. A 5m length is fine for most home driveways. If you park further from your wallbox than usual, perhaps in a long garage or on a wider driveway, a 7m cable removes any awkward stretch and makes daily plugging in effortless.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 10.4kWh usable battery from empty costs under £1 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or roughly £3 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. At those costs, plugging in every day adds up to very little. The bigger running-cost decision is how often you use the electric mode versus the petrol engine. Check current energy rates, as they change regularly.

Contact us
Can the Skoda Superb iV charge at 22kW?+

No, the Skoda Superb iV has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Skoda Superb iV need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated at 7.4kW. The Superb iV's onboard charger tops out at 3.6kW, so any standard Type 2 cable comfortably covers it. A 22kW or three-phase cable offers no speed advantage whatsoever for this vehicle.

Does the Skoda Superb iV support DC rapid charging?+

No. The Superb iV has no CCS or rapid charging port. Charging is AC-only through the Type 2 inlet at up to 3.6kW. It cannot be used at a rapid DC charging station.

How long does the Skoda Superb iV battery take to charge at home?+

At the car's 3.6kW maximum rate, the 10.4kWh usable battery takes around 3 hours from empty on a home wallbox. On a 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW it takes around 4.5 to 5 hours, which is manageable overnight.

Can I use a 22kW cable to speed up charging the Skoda Superb iV?+

No. The Superb iV's charger is fixed at 3.6kW regardless of what cable or charger you connect. A 22kW cable will charge at exactly the same 3.6kW rate as a cheaper 7.4kW lead, so there is nothing to gain from the more expensive option.
