Charging guide

Charging
your Skywell.

Skywell's UK model is the BE11, an electric SUV. It charges through a Type 2 inlet, so it takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging, with a CCS port for rapid DC.

The BE11 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, so whether a larger cable helps depends on your supply, as explained below. Pick it below for its exact charging times, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Skywell need?

The Skywell BE11 uses a Type 2 inlet, so you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m length suits most driveways, with 7m or 10m for on-street parking or a wallbox set back from the car. No Skywell needs a Type 1 cable.

The BE11 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW whatever cable you use, so a 7.4kW cable gives most owners the full speed their driveway can provide. A 22kW rated cable only helps on a three-phase supply or at 22kW public AC points, where the BE11 can pull its full 11kW.

What charging cable does the Skywell BE11 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The BE11 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a single-phase home it charges at 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable gives the full speed available.

Can the Skywell BE11 charge at 22kW?+

No. Its onboard charger tops out at 11kW on three phases, so a 22kW cable only ever delivers up to 11kW, and only on a three-phase supply. On a standard single-phase home the BE11 charges at 7.4kW.

Does the Skywell BE11 use Type 1 or Type 2?+

Type 2 for AC charging, with a CCS port for rapid DC. It does not need a Type 1 cable, so a Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the one to buy.

Is a bigger cable worth it for the BE11?+

Only if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points, where it reaches its full 11kW. On a standard single-phase home a 7.4kW cable is all the BE11 can use, so a larger cable buys nothing.

What length cable do I need for a Skywell BE11?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your wallbox sits far from the car's charging port. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
