Subaru Solterra
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Solterra+−
The Subaru Solterra has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Subaru Solterra versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Subaru Solterra, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Subaru Solterra Limited
- Subaru Solterra Touring
- Subaru Solterra AWD 73.1kWh
Whichever Solterra trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Subaru Solterra.
The Subaru Solterra is a mid-size electric SUV and Subaru's first pure battery vehicle in the UK, on sale since 2022. It is built on a platform co-developed with Toyota and closely related to the bZ4X. UK models carry a 71.4kWh battery and are available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Charging is through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for rapid DC at up to 150kW. One detail worth knowing: some early Solterra variants have a 6.6kW single-phase onboard charger rather than the 11kW three-phase unit, so AC charging speed can differ between build dates.
For home wallbox and public AC charging, the lead you supply is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Whether your car has the 6.6kW or 11kW onboard charger, a standard 7.4kW Type 2 cable covers both scenarios at home: on a single-phase supply the 11kW charger is limited to 7.4kW anyway, while the 6.6kW charger simply uses what it needs from a 7.4kW-rated lead. Rapid DC charging uses the station's own tethered connection.
Some early Solterra variants have a 6.6kW single-phase onboard charger rather than 11kW. Check your specific car's spec sheet if AC charging speed matters for your routine. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Solterra need?
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable rated to 7.4kW works for all UK Solterra variants at home. On a standard single-phase home supply, the actual charge rate is 7.4kW regardless of whether your car has the 6.6kW or 11kW onboard charger. The 11kW charger is limited to 7.4kW by the single-phase supply; the 6.6kW charger simply draws less than that ceiling. Either way, the 7.4kW cable is the right fit.
A 22kW three-phase cable makes sense if your car has the 11kW onboard charger and you use 22kW public AC stations regularly. At those points, the Solterra can pull up to 11kW rather than the 7.4kW a single-phase cable allows, which usefully shortens a public AC stop. If your Solterra has the 6.6kW single-phase charger, neither a 7.4kW nor a 22kW cable changes anything at a public 22kW station: the car's charger is still the limit. Check the spec sheet for your build date before investing in a larger cable.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge from empty on the 71.4kWh battery costs roughly £5 on a dedicated off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £19 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. Overnight home charging on a good EV tariff is where the Solterra makes financial sense: public rapid DC charging at 45p to 80p per kWh adds up quickly and is best kept for longer trips rather than routine top-ups. Check your supplier's current rates.

Subaru Solterra FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Subaru Solterra charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Subaru Solterra has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Subaru Solterra need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. A 5m, 7.4kW cable suits home wallboxes for all UK Solterra variants. Some early builds have a 6.6kW single-phase onboard charger rather than the 11kW three-phase unit, so check your car's specification. A 7.4kW cable covers both variants at home.
Does the Subaru Solterra charge at 11kW or 6.6kW AC?+−
It depends on the build. Later UK Solterra models have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, while some early variants are equipped with a 6.6kW single-phase charger. On a UK single-phase home wallbox, the 11kW variant is capped at 7.4kW in any case. Check the specification sheet for your specific car to confirm.
How long does the Subaru Solterra take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW wallbox, the 71.4kWh battery takes around 10 hours from near-empty with the 11kW onboard charger. With the 6.6kW single-phase charger the same battery takes around 11 hours. Both are comfortable overnight charges. A standard 3-pin socket at 2.3kW would take over 32 hours and is unsuitable for regular use.
How fast does the Subaru Solterra rapid charge on DC?+−
The Solterra accepts DC rapid charging at up to 150kW via its CCS port, using the charger's own tethered cable. At a capable rapid charger, the 71.4kWh battery can go from 10% to around 80% in roughly 35 to 40 minutes.
