Why this fits your bZ4X+

The Toyota bZ4X has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Toyota bZ4X versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Toyota bZ4X, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Toyota bZ4X Pure
  • Toyota bZ4X Motion
  • Toyota bZ4X Vision
  • Toyota bZ4X Premiere Edition

Whichever bZ4X trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Toyota bZ4X.

The Toyota bZ4X is Toyota's first purpose-built electric SUV for the UK market, launched in 2022 on the jointly developed e-TNGA platform shared with the Subaru Solterra. It comes with a 71.4kWh usable battery across its front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, though the onboard AC charger specification varies: FWD models support up to 11kW on three phases, while early cars and AWD variants are limited to 6.6kW. DC rapid charging is via a CCS port, and the car handles up to 150kW on FWD.

Home and public AC charging requires a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, which you supply. Rapid DC charging uses the station's own tethered cable. Which cable rating makes sense at home depends on both your home supply and which bZ4X variant you have, so it is worth knowing your specific car's AC charger spec before choosing.

FWD and AWD models differ in their AC charging speed. Check your car's onboard charger rating before selecting a cable: FWD supports up to 11kW (three-phase); AWD and early cars typically top out at 6.6kW. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the bZ4X need?

On a standard UK single-phase home supply, charging speed is capped at 7.4kW no matter which bZ4X variant you have or which cable you use. FWD models can do 11kW but only from a three-phase source; AWD and older cars top out at 6.6kW even then. For the overwhelming majority of UK owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the appropriate pick: it matches the maximum your home supply can deliver and costs less than a higher-rated alternative that delivers no extra speed at home.

If you have access to a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, a 22kW cable becomes relevant for FWD owners who can benefit from the full 11kW. AWD owners would still be limited to 6.6kW even on three-phase, making a 22kW cable unnecessary for that variant. When in doubt, confirm your specific car's AC charger spec and your home supply type before spending more than you need to.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 71.4kWh battery from empty costs roughly £5 to £5.50 on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £19 to £20 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The bZ4X's running costs are competitive for the SUV class, and an overnight EV tariff makes a meaningful annual saving over charging at standard rates. Public rapid charging adds up quickly on a battery this size, so keeping the habit of home charging wherever possible is worthwhile. Check current tariff rates before planning.

Good
questions.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Toyota bZ4X need?+

The Toyota bZ4X has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

Can the Toyota bZ4X charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Toyota bZ4X has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Toyota bZ4X need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The bZ4X uses a standard Type 2 AC inlet regardless of drivetrain. A 5m cable is enough for most home setups; choose a longer lead if your wallbox is positioned some distance from your usual parking spot.

Does the Toyota bZ4X charge at the same speed on FWD and AWD?+

No. FWD models support up to 11kW on three-phase AC. AWD variants and early production cars are limited to 6.6kW. On a standard UK single-phase home supply both charge at 7.4kW or below, but the difference matters on a three-phase source or at public 22kW AC points.

How long does the Toyota bZ4X take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox the 71.4kWh battery takes around 9.5 to 10 hours from empty, fitting comfortably within an overnight window. A 3-pin socket would take around 35 hours, making a dedicated wallbox essentially necessary for this size of battery.

Does the Toyota bZ4X use CCS or another connector for rapid charging?+

CCS. The bZ4X accepts DC rapid charging via a CCS port at up to around 150kW on FWD models. Rapid chargers provide their own tethered cables, so the Type 2 to Type 2 lead you carry is for AC charging only.
