Vauxhall Astra Electric
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Astra Electric+−
The Vauxhall Astra Electric has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Vauxhall Astra Electric versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Vauxhall Astra Electric, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Vauxhall Astra Electric Design
- Vauxhall Astra Electric GS
- Vauxhall Astra Electric Ultimate
Whichever Astra Electric trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Vauxhall Astra Electric.
The Vauxhall Astra Electric is the sixth-generation Astra reimagined as a fully electric hatchback, launched in 2023. Available in Design, GS and Ultimate trims, it shares its underpinnings with the Stellantis EMP2 platform and also comes as a Sports Tourer estate. The 54kWh battery (around 51kWh usable) charges via a Type 2 inlet for AC and CCS for rapid DC, with a peak DC rate of around 100kW.
To charge at home or at a public AC point, you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Rapid DC sessions at motorway hubs use the charger's own fixed lead, so you carry nothing extra for those stops. The Astra Electric's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, though the speed you actually see at home depends on how your property's electrical supply is configured.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Astra Electric need?
The Astra Electric can charge at up to 11kW, but that requires a three-phase connection. UK homes are almost universally single-phase, where the AC charging ceiling is 7.4kW, and no cable you buy changes that fact. At 7.4kW, the 54kWh battery fills from empty in around seven hours, which is a relaxed overnight charge. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable suits this perfectly and costs less than a three-phase alternative.
A 22kW cable is the right choice if you have a three-phase supply at home, which is more common in older rural properties and industrial conversions than in typical UK housing, or if you regularly visit 22kW public AC chargers. At those chargers the Astra Electric can draw its full 11kW, cutting AC charge time considerably compared with a single-phase session. If neither scenario applies to you, spend the saving on a good quality 7.4kW lead instead.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge on the 54kWh battery costs roughly £4 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or roughly £15 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. Charged overnight on a time-of-use tariff, the Astra Electric is straightforward to run at low cost. Public rapid charging at around 45p to 80p per kWh adds up quickly, so it is worth reserving for journeys that genuinely need it. Check current tariff rates before committing to a plan.

Vauxhall Astra Electric FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Vauxhall Astra Electric charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Vauxhall Astra Electric has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Vauxhall Astra Electric need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The Astra Electric has a standard Type 2 inlet. For a single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available charging speed. A 22kW cable is only worthwhile if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers.
Does the Vauxhall Astra Electric support 11kW AC charging?+−
Yes, the onboard charger is rated to 11kW on three phases. In practice, most UK homes are single-phase and are limited to 7.4kW. On a three-phase supply or a compatible public AC charger, the Astra Electric reaches its full 11kW.
How long does the Vauxhall Astra Electric take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW wallbox, the 54kWh battery takes roughly seven hours from empty, so an overnight charge handles it with ease. A 3-pin granny lead extends that to around 21 hours, which is slow enough to treat it as backup only. Rapid DC charging at up to 100kW is a different matter, adding significant range in well under an hour.
What cable length do I need for the Vauxhall Astra Electric?+−
A 5m cable is the standard starting point and covers most home driveways and public bays. If your wallbox is set further back from your usual parking position, or you reverse in and the charging inlet ends up further from the socket, a 7m or 10m cable avoids the frustration of a lead that will not quite reach.
