Why this fits your Corsa Electric+

The Vauxhall Corsa Electric has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Vauxhall Corsa Electric versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Vauxhall Corsa Electric, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric Design
  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric GS
  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric Ultimate
  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric Corsa Electric
  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric Corsa Electric Long Range

Whichever Corsa Electric trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Vauxhall Corsa Electric.

The second-generation Vauxhall Corsa Electric reached UK showrooms in 2023, sharing its Stellantis CMP platform with the Peugeot e-208. The standard variant uses a 51kWh battery, and a Long Range version with a 54kWh pack is also available. All models charge through a Type 2 AC inlet and a CCS rapid port: for home and public AC charging, the cable you supply is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Corsa Electric is one of the UK's more accessible entry points into electric motoring, with a familiar supermini footprint.

The onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases, which is a stronger specification than the 7.4kW single-phase charger fitted to the earlier generation. DC rapid charging peaks at 100kW, using the rapid charger's tethered CCS cable rather than anything you buy. The 51kWh battery suits the Corsa Electric's role as a commuter and city car well, covering typical daily mileage with room to spare.

Both battery variants share the same 100kW DC and 11kW AC charging speeds. The Long Range adds a modest amount of range for a small price difference. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Corsa Electric need?

Charging the Corsa Electric at home means working within the limits of a single-phase supply, which all standard UK domestic wallboxes provide. That supply tops out at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating or wallbox output. The Corsa Electric's 11kW charger will only reach its rated speed on a three-phase source. At home on a standard wallbox, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is what you need: it delivers the full available speed and costs less than a 22kW option that offers no benefit on that installation.

The 22kW cable becomes relevant if you use three-phase public AC charge points regularly. At those locations the Corsa Electric draws its full 11kW, reducing charge time from roughly 7 hours to around 5. Destination chargers at hotels, supermarkets, and some car parks are increasingly installing 22kW AC units. If that kind of infrastructure features in your routine, the 22kW cable adds real flexibility. For everyone else, the 7.4kW cable is the sensible starting point.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 51kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and about £14 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p. The Long Range 54kWh variant is marginally more at around £4 and £15 respectively. As a supermini, the Corsa Electric's daily energy use is modest, and an off-peak overnight tariff keeps running costs very competitive. Avoid using public rapid chargers routinely: at 45p to 80p per kWh the cost per mile climbs sharply. Check current tariff rates.

Good

Contact us
Can the Vauxhall Corsa Electric charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Vauxhall Corsa Electric has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Vauxhall Corsa Electric need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. The Corsa Electric uses a Type 2 inlet on both the 51kWh and 54kWh Long Range variants. A 5m cable works for most domestic driveways. On a standard single-phase home supply the maximum charging speed is 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable is the right match for most buyers.

Is the Vauxhall Corsa Electric's 11kW charger useful at home?+

Only if you have a three-phase supply, which most UK homes do not. On a standard single-phase domestic wallbox the ceiling is 7.4kW and the charger rating does not change that. The 11kW charger becomes relevant at three-phase public AC charge points, where it draws the full rated speed.

How long does the Vauxhall Corsa Electric take to charge overnight?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 51kWh battery takes around 7 hours from empty. The 54kWh Long Range adds roughly 30 minutes. Both complete comfortably within a standard overnight window. Most owners charge from a partial state rather than from empty, so typical evening plug-in sessions are shorter. A 3-pin socket would take around 28 hours for a full charge on the standard battery.

Does the Vauxhall Corsa Electric charge faster than the previous generation?+

Yes on both AC and DC. The second-generation Corsa Electric has an 11kW three-phase AC charger, compared with the 7.4kW single-phase unit in the earlier car. DC rapid charging rises to 100kW from around 75kW. Both improvements are most noticeable on longer trips where faster DC stops or three-phase AC top-ups make a practical difference.
