Why this fits your Movano-e+

The Vauxhall Movano-e has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Vauxhall Movano-e.

The Vauxhall Movano-e is the first-generation large electric panel van, on sale in the UK from 2021. Early examples used smaller battery packs, with later versions carrying a 70kWh option. The van charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to 50kW. It is built for urban freight, last-mile delivery, and operators needing a high-roof workhorse without tailpipe emissions.

The Movano-e's AC charging cable is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead for use at wallboxes and public AC charge points. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW on a single phase. DC rapid charging at up to 50kW goes through the charge point's own tethered CCS cable. The Gen2 Movano Electric (from 2024) is a separate, more capable platform with a 110kWh battery; if your van is a 2024 or newer model, check whether you have the Gen2.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Movano-e need?

The Movano-e's 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger is the decisive factor: whatever cable or charge point you use, AC charging tops out at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is therefore the correct choice for depot wallbox charging, and it also works at public 7kW AC posts. There is no three-phase charger option on the standard Movano-e, so a 22kW cable adds no benefit.

Because the DC rapid rate is limited to 50kW, the Movano-e benefits less from ultra-rapid charge points than newer commercial EVs; that said, a 50kW CCS top-up during a driver break is still a useful tool on longer routes. For the AC cable itself, a longer lead is often more practical on a large van. A 7m cable reaches the inlet more comfortably in most depot bays without the van needing to be positioned in exactly the right spot.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 70kWh battery from empty costs roughly £5 to £5.50 on an off-peak tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £19 at a standard rate of 27p per kWh. Operators with earlier, smaller-pack variants will see lower figures. For fleets, overnight depot charging on a low-rate business tariff is the practical backbone of day-to-day running; the 50kW DC maximum is useful for a mid-shift top-up when needed but is not as fast as newer generation vans. Always check current rates with your energy supplier.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Vauxhall Movano-e need?+

The Vauxhall Movano-e has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.

Can the Vauxhall Movano-e charge at 22kW?+

No, the Vauxhall Movano-e has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 7.4kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Vauxhall Movano-e need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for wallbox and public AC charging. The 7.4kW onboard charger is served by a 7.4kW cable, which gives the van its full AC speed. There is no three-phase option, so a 22kW cable carries no benefit. DC rapid charging at up to 50kW uses the charge point's tethered CCS lead, not a cable you purchase.

How fast can the Vauxhall Movano-e charge on DC?+

The Movano-e accepts DC rapid charging at up to 50kW through its CCS port, using the tethered cable at the charge point. This is slower than many newer commercial EVs, but still allows a meaningful top-up during a driver break. On AC, the van is limited to 7.4kW regardless of the charge point's rated output.

How long does the Vauxhall Movano-e take to charge at home or at a depot?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox, the 70kWh battery takes around 10 hours from empty, which suits an overnight depot charge well. Earlier, smaller-pack variants charge proportionally faster. A standard 3-pin socket at around 2.3kW would take over 30 hours for the 70kWh battery, making it impractical for commercial use. A wallbox is essential for regular operation.

What cable length is best for the Vauxhall Movano-e?+

A 7m cable is a sensible choice for a large van, offering enough reach across different depot bay configurations without the lead pulling tight. If your charging posts are at one end of a long bay or positioned in front of the vehicle rather than alongside it, a 10m cable gives you more flexibility and avoids the need for precise parking to reach the inlet.
