VinFast VF6
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your VF6+−
The VinFast VF6 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which VinFast VF6 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every VinFast VF6, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- VinFast VF6 Eco
- VinFast VF6 Plus
Whichever VF6 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

Charging
the VinFast VF6.
The VinFast VF6 is a compact electric SUV from Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast, available in the UK from 2024 in Eco and Plus trims. It carries a 59.6kWh battery and connects to public and home AC chargers through a standard Type 2 inlet. For rapid DC charging, the VF6 supports up to around 100kW via CCS, using the charger's own tethered cable.
When it comes to day-to-day charging at home or on public AC points, you bring your own Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The VF6's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, which determines how quickly the battery tops up on AC, regardless of how powerful the wallbox is. Knowing this matters when choosing which cable to buy.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the VF6 need?
The VF6's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW across three phases. In practice, almost all UK homes have a single-phase electricity supply, which caps home charging at 7.4kW whatever cable you plug in. For the vast majority of owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right tool: it delivers the full speed your home can offer and costs less than a higher-rated alternative.
A 22kW cable only becomes worthwhile if you have a three-phase supply at home (uncommon in UK residential properties) or you regularly stop at 22kW public AC chargers. At those points the VF6 will draw its full 11kW. On a standard single-phase home supply, a 22kW cable charges at exactly the same 7.4kW as a cheaper 7.4kW lead, so the main argument for it is forward compatibility rather than any immediate speed gain.
A 5m cable covers most driveway setups comfortably. If your wallbox is some distance from where you park, or the charging port ends up on the far side of the car from the socket, a 7m or 10m lead gives you more flexibility.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 59.6kWh battery from empty at an off-peak rate of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £4 to £5. On a standard tariff of around 27p per kWh, the same charge runs to around £16. Keeping most charging overnight on a dedicated EV tariff makes the VF6 noticeably cheap to run. Check current tariff rates, as these change regularly.

VinFast VF6 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the VinFast VF6 charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the VinFast VF6 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the VinFast VF6 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. A 5m lead suits most driveways. For a typical single-phase home, a 7.4kW cable is sufficient; consider a 22kW rated cable only if you have a three-phase supply or frequently use 22kW public AC chargers.
Can the VinFast VF6 charge at 11kW or 22kW?+−
The VF6's onboard charger supports up to 11kW on a three-phase supply. Most UK homes are single-phase, so home charging is typically limited to 7.4kW. On a three-phase public AC point, the car will draw up to 11kW. It cannot exceed 11kW on AC, so a 22kW cable adds no speed unless the supply is three-phase.
How long does the VinFast VF6 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox, a full charge from empty takes around 8 to 9 hours, easily covered overnight. On a slower 3.7kW charger expect roughly 16 to 18 hours. A 3-pin granny cable is far slower and best kept as a backup option rather than a primary charging method.
What length cable do I need for the VinFast VF6?+−
A 5m cable works for most home setups. If your wallbox is set back from where you typically park, or there is a significant distance between the socket and the car's charging port, a 7m or 10m cable removes any risk of it not quite reaching.
