Charge speeds
Across the VinFast range.
Every VinFast here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. AC charging tops out at 11kW across the range. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.
Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.
Charging guide
Charging
your VinFast.
VinFast's UK line-up currently comprises two battery-electric SUVs: the VF6, a compact crossover, and the VF8, a larger mid-size SUV. Both use a Type 2 inlet and share an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger, which means the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works for either model at home and at public AC charge points.
Choosing the right cable is a matter of cable rating for your home supply and length for your parking setup. Pick your model below for exact charge times and cable recommendations, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.
What charging cable does a VinFast need?
Both VinFast models use a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length works for most home driveways and standard public charge points. For on-street parking or a wallbox that sits some distance from where the car parks, 7m or 10m provides more comfortable reach.
The VF6 and VF8 each have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. The great majority of UK homes are single-phase, capping AC charging at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating, so a 7.4kW cable already gives you the full speed your home supply can deliver. A 22kW cable is only worth considering if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly use 22kW public AC points, where either VinFast will draw its full 11kW.
For most UK owners, a single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits both the VF6 and VF8 for everyday home charging.

Contact usDo all VinFast electric cars use a Type 2 charging cable?+−
Yes. The VF6 and VF8 both use a Type 2 inlet for AC charging. Neither model needs a Type 1 cable. A single Type 2 to Type 2 cable works for home and public AC charging across the entire VinFast range currently available in the UK.
What charging cable does a VinFast VF6 or VF8 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Both models have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase UK home supply they charge at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable is the right choice for home use; a 22kW cable only adds value at a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC point.
Can a VinFast charge at 22kW AC?+−
No. The VF6 and VF8 have 11kW three-phase onboard chargers, so 11kW is their AC ceiling. On a standard single-phase home supply both models charge at 7.4kW. A 22kW cable will work but will never deliver more than 11kW to either car, and only then on a three-phase supply.
Is the charging cable the same for the VF6 and VF8?+−
Yes. Both use a Type 2 inlet and an 11kW three-phase AC charger, so the same cable suits either model. The VF8 has a larger 87.7kWh battery compared with the VF6's 59.6kWh, so it takes longer to charge from empty, but the cable type and the speed at any given supply are identical.
What length cable do I need for my VinFast?+−
5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. If you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is some distance from where the car sits, a 7m or 10m cable gives useful extra reach. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably to keep weight and bulk manageable.
