VinFast VF8
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your VF8+−
The VinFast VF8 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which VinFast VF8 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every VinFast VF8, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- VinFast VF8 Eco Extended Range
- VinFast VF8 Plus Extended Range
Whichever VF8 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

Charging
the VinFast VF8.
The VinFast VF8 is a full-size electric SUV from VinFast, arriving in the UK from 2024 with an 87.7kWh battery in Eco Extended Range and Plus Extended Range trims. Like most modern EVs sold in Europe, it uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging at home and on public slow and fast AC points. DC rapid charging at up to around 150kW uses CCS, with a tethered cable provided by the rapid charger itself.
For everyday charging, the cable you carry is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The VF8's onboard AC charger accepts up to 11kW across three phases, so the cable you choose and the supply available both play a role in how quickly the large battery refills on AC.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the VF8 need?
The VF8 supports up to 11kW on a three-phase AC supply. At home, most UK households have a single-phase supply, which limits home charging to 7.4kW regardless of the cable's rating. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable is therefore the practical choice for the large majority of owners: it delivers the maximum speed your driveway can provide without the added cost of a higher-rated lead.
Owners who have access to a three-phase supply at home, or who regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, will see the VF8 pull its full 11kW through a 22kW rated cable. On any single-phase setup, however, the same 22kW cable charges no faster than a 7.4kW one. Given the VF8's substantial 87.7kWh battery, many owners will prefer overnight home charging anyway rather than relying on public AC points.
A 5m cable suits most driveways and home wallboxes. The VF8 is a large SUV, so if your wallbox is set back from where you park, or you park with the charging port on the far side from the socket, a 7m or 10m lead gives more reach.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge of the 87.7kWh battery from empty on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh works out to roughly £6 to £7. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same charge costs closer to £24. The VF8's large battery means it covers substantial distances between charges, but overnight off-peak charging keeps running costs low. Always check current tariff rates, as they vary.

VinFast VF8 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the VinFast VF8 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. A 5m lead works for most driveways. On a standard single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable gives you the full available speed; a 22kW cable is worth considering only if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC chargers regularly.
Can the VinFast VF8 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The VF8's onboard AC charger is limited to 11kW on three phases. Even on a three-phase supply or at a 22kW public AC point, the car will draw at most 11kW. On a single-phase home setup, AC charging is capped at 7.4kW, so a 22kW cable brings no speed benefit there.
How long does the VinFast VF8 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 87.7kWh pack takes around 12 to 13 hours from empty, so overnight charging is comfortable and practical. A 3-pin granny cable at around 2.3kW would take well over 30 hours from empty and is best used only as an emergency backup.
What length cable do I need for the VinFast VF8?+−
A 5m cable covers most setups. The VF8 is a large SUV, so if your wallbox is mounted at the far end of a long parking space or on a wall some distance away, measure the run carefully and opt for 7m or 10m if needed to reach comfortably.
