Why this fits your ID. Polo+

The Volkswagen ID. Polo has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Volkswagen ID. Polo versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Volkswagen ID. Polo, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Volkswagen ID. Polo 85 kW 37 kWh
  • Volkswagen ID. Polo 99 kW 37 kWh
  • Volkswagen ID. Polo 155 kW 52 kWh

Whichever ID. Polo trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Volkswagen ID. Polo.

The Volkswagen ID. Polo is a compact electric hatchback built on the MEB Entry platform, arriving in the UK from 2026. It is available in two battery configurations: a base trim with a 37kWh usable pack and DC charging at up to around 90kW, and a launch Edition trim with a 52kWh battery supporting up to around 105kW DC. All variants share the same Type 2 inlet for AC charging and CCS port for rapid DC, and all charge on AC at up to 11kW on three phases.

Day-to-day charging at home or on public AC points uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable that you bring yourself. Rapid DC charging at public fast chargers uses the charger's own tethered cable. The ID. Polo's 11kW AC charger is capable and means the choice of cable rating matters for three-phase scenarios.

Select your battery variant above. The 52kWh Launch Edition packs more range; both share the same 11kW AC charging rate. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the ID. Polo need?

The ID. Polo's onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW on a three-phase supply. The majority of UK homes have a single-phase supply, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable or wallbox. For most owners, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the correct choice: it delivers the maximum speed a single-phase home connection allows and costs less than a three-phase alternative.

A 22kW cable makes sense if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers. In those situations the ID. Polo will charge at its full 11kW. For anything else, the 22kW option adds no charging speed at all on a single-phase connection, so the practical recommendation for most buyers is a 7.4kW lead.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 37kWh battery from empty on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs around £3. The 52kWh pack costs roughly £4 off-peak, or around £14 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. The ID. Polo is one of the smaller MEB hatchbacks, so home charging costs are modest. Check current rates, as tariffs change regularly.

Can the Volkswagen ID. Polo charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Volkswagen ID. Polo has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Volkswagen ID. Polo need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC charge points. All trims have an 11kW onboard charger. On a typical single-phase UK home supply, a 7.4kW cable gives the full available speed. Only consider a 22kW cable if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points regularly.

Can the VW ID. Polo charge at 11kW or 22kW?+

The ID. Polo supports up to 11kW AC on a three-phase supply. On a standard single-phase UK home, charging tops out at 7.4kW whatever cable you use. At a three-phase public AC point the car will draw 11kW. It cannot charge faster than 11kW on AC.

How long does the VW ID. Polo take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 37kWh battery takes around five hours from empty and the 52kWh pack around seven hours. Both are well suited to overnight charging. DC rapid charging brings the 52kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent considerably faster when needed on longer trips.

What length cable do I need for the Volkswagen ID. Polo?+

A 5m cable is the standard choice for most driveways. If your wallbox is positioned well away from where the car typically parks, or there is a longer run to reach the charging port, a 7m or 10m lead is worth considering to avoid a strained cable.
