Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Tayron eHybrid+−
The Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Charging
the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid.
The Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid is a plug-in hybrid SUV that arrived in the UK from 2025. It sits above the Tiguan in VW's SUV range and carries a 19.7kWh usable battery, giving it a claimed EV range of over 100 kilometres. Charging goes through a Type 2 inlet on the car, so the cable you supply for home and public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The Tayron eHybrid also supports DC rapid charging at up to 50kW via a CCS port, which is handled by the charger's own tethered cable. For slower AC charging, the onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, which means cable choice depends on the supply available at your home or the AC point you are using.
Estimates based on battery size and charge power. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Tayron eHybrid need?
The Tayron eHybrid's onboard AC charger can accept up to 11kW, but this requires a three-phase supply at the charger. The vast majority of UK homes run on single-phase electricity, which caps any home charge at 7.4kW, regardless of the cable you choose. On that basis, a 7.4kW single-phase Type 2 cable is the right fit for most owners, covering both home wallboxes and the majority of public AC points.
If you have access to a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, a 22kW three-phase Type 2 cable allows the Tayron to pull its full 11kW. That cuts the time to fill the 19.7kWh pack to around two hours compared to around two and a half on single-phase. For everyone else, the cheaper 7.4kW cable delivers identical home charging speed.
What does it cost to charge?
Topping up the 19.7kWh usable pack from empty costs roughly £1.50 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £5.30 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a PHEV, most owners will be starting from a partially charged battery rather than empty, so daily charging costs are often lower than these full-fill figures suggest. Check current tariffs, as energy prices vary.

Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. Most UK owners will do best with a 7.4kW single-phase cable, since UK homes are almost universally single-phase. A 22kW three-phase cable is only worth the extra cost if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points regularly.
Can the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid charge at 11kW?+−
Yes, but only on a three-phase supply. The car's onboard AC charger supports up to 11kW, and it will draw that full rate from a three-phase 11kW or 22kW AC point with the right cable. On a standard single-phase home, charging tops out at 7.4kW regardless of the cable or wallbox rating.
How long does the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid take to charge at home?+−
On a typical 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 19.7kWh usable pack charges from empty in around two and a half to three hours. On a three-phase 11kW setup this drops to roughly two hours. A 3-pin socket is much slower and is best avoided for regular overnight top-ups.
Does the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid support rapid charging?+−
Yes. The Tayron eHybrid has a CCS port and accepts DC charging at up to 50kW. Rapid chargers use their own tethered cable, so you do not need to buy a DC cable separately. The Type 2 cable you purchase is for AC home and public charging only.
