Why this fits your XC60 T8 Twin Engine+

The Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 3.7kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Which Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine R Design AWD
  • Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription AWD
  • Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine R Design Pro AWD
  • Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Pro AWD

How long does it take?

Charging
the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine.

The Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine is the pre-Recharge generation of Volvo's mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV, produced from 2017 to 2021 on the second-generation SPA platform. It carries a 10.4kWh gross battery on earlier cars, growing to 11.6kWh on later examples before the Recharge era brought the larger 18.8kWh pack. UK buyers could choose from R Design, Inscription, R Design Pro, Inscription Pro, and Polestar Engineered trim levels. All versions plug in via a Type 2 inlet and are AC-only; there is no DC rapid charging.

Charging the XC60 T8 at home or at a public AC point requires a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The onboard AC charger is a single-phase 3.7kW unit, which sets the maximum charging rate regardless of the wallbox or supply you use. The car uses the petrol engine alongside the electric motor for performance and longer range, with the plug-in battery best suited to regular overnight top-ups.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the XC60 T8 Twin Engine need?

A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the sensible choice for the XC60 T8. The onboard charger draws at most 3.7kW, so the cable rating never becomes a bottleneck; the car controls how much current it takes, and that is capped at 3.7kW. A 7.4kW cable sits comfortably above that limit, works with every public AC charge post and home wallbox, and is available in a wide range of quality options.

Three-phase cables are not relevant to the XC60 T8 because the onboard charger is a single-phase design. Spending more on a higher-rated or three-phase cable brings no charging speed improvement. Once you have a suitable cable type and rating, cable length is the remaining decision: a 5m lead works for most driveways, and a 7m option gives extra reach if the wallbox is at a distance from the car's usual parking position.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 10.4kWh battery from empty costs under £1 at an off-peak tariff of roughly 7.5p per kWh, or around £3 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. The 11.6kWh pack on later cars is marginally more. Given the small battery size, charging costs are low in absolute terms regardless of tariff, and the main running-cost benefit comes from using electric miles for town driving and short commutes. Check your supplier's current rates.

Contact us
Can the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine charge at 22kW?+

No, the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 3.7kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The XC60 T8's onboard charger is rated at 3.7kW single-phase, so a standard 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the correct choice. DC rapid charging is not supported on this model, and a three-phase cable provides no benefit.

How fast does the Volvo XC60 T8 charge?+

The onboard charger is limited to 3.7kW single-phase. On a home wallbox rated at 7.4kW you will still only get 3.7kW, because the car itself determines the charging rate. There is no DC rapid charging option on the XC60 T8 Twin Engine.

How long does the Volvo XC60 T8 take to charge at home?+

At 3.7kW, the 10.4kWh battery takes roughly three hours from empty, and the 11.6kWh battery on later cars takes about three and a half hours. A three-pin socket is slower, typically four to five hours, but the small battery means even a slow charge completes overnight with ease.

What length cable do I need for the Volvo XC60 T8?+

A 5m cable works for most domestic setups. If your wallbox is set back from the car's parking position or there is any uncertainty about reach, a 7m lead is worth considering. Because charging sessions are several hours long, a cable that reaches with slack is kinder on the connectors than one that is pulled taut.
