Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron
Charging cable
The e-tron / Q8 e-tron is 11kW three-phase as standard. The optional 22kW charger charges faster on a three-phase supply. The 22kW cable is the right one either way.
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your e-tron / Q8 e-tron+−
The Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron.
The Audi Q8 e-tron is Audi's flagship large electric SUV, evolved from the original e-tron 55 launched in 2019. The 2023 Q8 e-tron designation brought a revised exterior and, more importantly, a significantly expanded battery of around 114kWh usable, with DC rapid charging at up to 170kW. Earlier e-tron 55 models used an 86kWh pack with up to 150kW DC. All variants share the same Type 2 AC inlet and CCS DC port.
For home wallboxes and public AC stations, the cable you carry is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, with 22kW available as an option. DC rapid charging at up to 170kW uses the charger's own tethered cable; you do not buy one for rapid sessions. The large battery means AC home charging is best treated as an overnight routine.
Early e-tron 55 models use the smaller 86kWh pack; the 2023 Q8 e-tron revision brought the larger 114kWh battery and slightly higher DC rate. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the e-tron / Q8 e-tron need?
The Q8 e-tron's 11kW onboard AC charger (22kW optional) is capable of more than a standard single-phase UK home supply can deliver. With a domestic single-phase wallbox capped at 7.4kW, that is the limit for the majority of home charging, regardless of the cable you use. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 lead suits this setup and covers the full speed of the supply.
For owners with access to a three-phase home supply or who regularly use 22kW public AC chargers, the Q8 e-tron's 11kW onboard charger unlocks higher AC speed. Models fitted with the optional 22kW charger can use the full output of a 22kW three-phase station. In either case, a three-phase-rated cable is needed to carry that current. On a standard single-phase home connection, the cable rating makes no practical difference to charge speed.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the larger 114kWh battery from empty costs roughly £8 to £9 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £31 at a standard daytime rate of around 27p per kWh. The smaller 86kWh e-tron works out at roughly £6 to £6.50 off-peak. Overnight charging on a dedicated EV tariff is well suited to a large SUV like this, where partial top-ups during the day keep the battery between 20 and 80 per cent for battery longevity. Public rapid charging costs considerably more per kWh. Check current tariff rates.

Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron need?+−
The Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
Can the Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron charge at 22kW?+−
As standard the Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger; the optional 22kW charger lets it charge at up to 22kW on a three-phase supply. Either way it uses the same 22kW three-phase cable.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Audi Q8 e-tron need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The Q8 e-tron has a Type 2 AC inlet rated at 11kW on three phases (22kW optional), plus a CCS port for DC rapid charging at up to 170kW, which uses the charger's own tethered cable. For most UK owners on a single-phase supply, a 7.4kW Type 2 lead is the correct everyday choice.
Can the Audi Q8 e-tron charge at 22kW?+−
Only variants fitted with the optional 22kW onboard charger, and only at a 22kW three-phase AC station with a three-phase-rated cable. The standard model's AC limit is 11kW. On a single-phase UK home supply every variant is capped at 7.4kW regardless of cable or charger. DC rapid charging at up to 170kW is the route to faster sessions at compatible stations.
How long does an Audi Q8 e-tron take to charge at home?+−
The 114kWh battery (Q8 e-tron 2023) takes around 15 to 16 hours from empty on a 7.4kW wallbox, so overnight charging covers partial top-ups comfortably. On a three-phase 11kW supply that drops to roughly 10 hours. The earlier 86kWh e-tron 55 takes around 12 hours at 7.4kW. Most owners charge regularly to stay between 20 and 80 per cent rather than running to empty.
What length cable do I need for an Audi Q8 e-tron?+−
A 5m cable covers most driveways but the Q8 e-tron is a large vehicle and inbox length can matter. A 7m lead is a sensible default for a big SUV, removing any risk of a too-short reach if the inlet ends up on the far side from your wallbox. Ten-metre cables give maximum flexibility at varied locations but add weight to carry.
