BMW iX2
Charging cable
The iX2 is 11kW three-phase as standard. The optional 22kW charger charges faster on a three-phase supply. The 22kW cable is the right one either way.
Charges about 195% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your iX2+−
The BMW iX2 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which BMW iX2 versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every BMW iX2, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- BMW iX2 eDrive20 M Sport
- BMW iX2 xDrive 30 M Sport
- BMW iX2 eDrive20 Shadow Edition
- BMW iX2 xDrive30 Shadow Edition
Whichever iX2 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the BMW iX2.
The BMW iX2 is a compact SUV coupe from BMW's U10 generation, combining a raised ride height with a sloping roofline for a sportier profile than the boxier iX1 it shares its platform with. UK buyers can choose between the rear-wheel-drive eDrive20 and the all-wheel-drive xDrive30, both carrying a 66.5kWh battery and charging through a Type 2 inlet for AC sessions. Rapid DC charging at up to 130kW is handled through the car's CCS port using the station's own tethered lead.
For everyday charging at home or on public AC points, the cable you provide is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The iX2's onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, and that ceiling applies regardless of which cable you choose. Most owners do the bulk of their charging overnight at home, so cable length and build quality matter far more in practice than rated power on a single-phase supply.
The 66.5kWh battery typically fills in around 9 to 10 hours on a 7.4kW home wallbox, comfortably within an overnight window. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the iX2 need?
A Type 2 to Type 2 lead rated to at least 32A single-phase (7.4kW) is the practical choice for most iX2 owners. A 5m cable suits the majority of home driveways and standard public AC posts without leaving excess lead trailing across the forecourt. The iX2's 66.5kWh battery is large enough that the difference between a neat 5m and a tangled longer cable matters over time.
The iX2's onboard charger can accept 11kW, but only on a three-phase supply. On the standard single-phase supply found in virtually all UK homes, the maximum AC charge rate is 7.4kW regardless of what cable you attach. A 22kW three-phase cable will charge the iX2 at exactly the same 7.4kW speed as a cheaper single-phase one in that situation, so upgrading only pays off if you regularly use 22kW public AC points or have a three-phase connection at home or work.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge from empty on the 66.5kWh battery costs roughly £5 on a dedicated off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £18 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Most iX2 owners charge at home overnight, where an off-peak tariff makes the biggest difference to running costs. Public rapid charging at 45p to 80p per kWh adds up quickly and is best reserved for longer journeys. Check your supplier for current rates, as tariffs change.

BMW iX2 FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usCan the BMW iX2 charge at 22kW?+−
As standard the BMW iX2 has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger; the optional 22kW charger lets it charge at up to 22kW on a three-phase supply. Either way it uses the same 22kW three-phase cable.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What charging cable does the BMW iX2 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. A 5m, 7.4kW (32A) cable suits most home installs. The iX2 accepts up to 11kW on three phases, so a 22kW cable only adds speed if you have a three-phase supply or regularly use 22kW AC stations.
Can the BMW iX2 charge at 22kW AC?+−
No. The iX2's onboard AC charger peaks at 11kW on three phases, so 22kW is not possible. On a standard UK single-phase home supply the rate is capped at 7.4kW regardless of cable. A 22kW cable will still deliver 11kW on a three-phase supply, but the car's charger is the limit, not the lead.
How long does the BMW iX2 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 66.5kWh battery takes roughly 9 to 10 hours from close to empty, which fits comfortably in an overnight charge. A three-phase 11kW wallbox shortens this to around 6.5 hours. A standard 3-pin slow charger takes around 30 hours and is best kept as a backup option only.
How fast does the BMW iX2 charge on a rapid charger?+−
The iX2 accepts DC rapid charging at up to 130kW via its CCS port, using the station's own tethered cable. At a capable rapid charger, the 66.5kWh battery can go from 10% to around 80% in approximately 35 to 40 minutes, suitable for a motorway stop.
