BYD Dolphin G
Charging cable
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your Dolphin G+−
The BYD Dolphin G has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.
Which BYD Dolphin G versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every BYD Dolphin G, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- BYD Dolphin G Boost
- BYD Dolphin G Sport
- BYD Dolphin G Active
- BYD Dolphin G Comfort
Whichever Dolphin G trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the BYD Dolphin G.
The BYD Dolphin G is a plug-in hybrid supermini arriving in the UK in summer 2026, built on BYD's DM-i 5.0 hybrid system. The UK range spans four trims: Active, Boost, Comfort, and Sport. The higher trims (Sport and Comfort) carry an 18.3kWh Blade LFP battery with both AC and DC charging capability, while the entry Active trim has a smaller 7.4kWh battery with AC charging only. All variants use a Type 2 inlet; the cable you need for a home wallbox or public AC charge point is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
On AC, the Sport and Comfort trims charge at up to 6.6kW on a single phase. The Active trim shares the same 6.6kW rate (within its smaller battery). DC rapid charging at up to 39kW is available on the 18.3kWh Sport and Comfort trims, estimated at around 26 minutes from 10 to 80 percent; the Active and Boost trims have no DC capability. DC charging uses the station's own tethered CCS cable.
The Active trim's 7.4kWh battery has no DC charging. The 18.3kWh Sport and Comfort trims support DC at up to 39kW. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Dolphin G need?
The Dolphin G's onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW, which sits below the 7.4kW ceiling of a standard single-phase UK home supply. A 7.4kW Type 2 cable is therefore the logical choice: it works with all UK wallboxes and public AC points, and the car will draw its full 6.6kW through it. There is no reason to step up to a three-phase cable for any Dolphin G variant.
Because the AC rate is well within single-phase limits, a three-phase cable adds nothing here. Whether you are on a home wallbox or a public AC unit, the Dolphin G charges at 6.6kW on the larger battery variants. Keep it simple: a standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 lead is all you need for day-to-day use on any trim.
What does it cost to charge?
Topping up the 18.3kWh battery from empty costs roughly £1 to £2 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £5 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The smaller 7.4kWh Active battery costs well under £1 off-peak and around £2 at standard rates. As a PHEV, the Dolphin G pairs the battery with a petrol engine for longer journeys, so daily plug-in costs are low. Check current tariffs before budgeting.

BYD Dolphin G FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the BYD Dolphin G need?+−
The BYD Dolphin G has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 6.6kW.
Can the BYD Dolphin G charge at 22kW?+−
No, the BYD Dolphin G has a single-phase onboard charger limited to 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. A 22kW cable would only benefit a future car.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
Does the BYD Dolphin G support V2L?+−
Yes. The BYD Dolphin G supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.
What cable does the BYD Dolphin G need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging at home or at public charge points. The Dolphin G's AC inlet is Type 2 across all trims. A standard 7.4kW cable is the right choice: the onboard charger draws up to 6.6kW, comfortably within what a 7.4kW lead and a single-phase supply can provide. No three-phase cable is needed.
Can the BYD Dolphin G rapid charge on DC?+−
It depends on the trim. The 18.3kWh Sport and Comfort versions support DC charging at up to 39kW via a CCS port, with a 10 to 80 percent charge taking around 26 minutes. The Active trim (7.4kWh battery) has no DC port. DC charging uses the station's own tethered cable, not a cable you carry.
How long does the BYD Dolphin G take to charge at home?+−
At 6.6kW on a wallbox, the 18.3kWh battery takes around 2.5 to 3 hours from empty. The smaller 7.4kWh Active battery takes under two hours at the same rate. Even on a standard three-pin socket at around 2.3kW, either battery fills in a few hours, making slow charging perfectly workable overnight.
Does the BYD Dolphin G Active trim charge on DC?+−
No. The Active trim carries a 7.4kWh battery with AC charging only. It has no CCS DC port. If DC charging capability matters to you, check that you have the Sport or Comfort trim, which come with the 18.3kWh battery and a 39kW DC port.
