Why this fits your Han+

The BYD Han has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the BYD Han.

The BYD Han is BYD's flagship electric saloon, introduced to the UK from 2022 and positioned as a large, long-range four-door. It is powered by an 85.4kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate battery, a chemistry that tolerates routine full charges better than some alternatives. Like other BYD EVs sold in the UK, the Han uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for rapid DC. For home wallboxes and public AC charge points, the cable you supply is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The Han's onboard AC charger handles up to 11kW on three phases. DC rapid charging reaches up to 120kW, handled entirely by the station's own tethered CCS cable. LFP battery chemistry means the Han performs consistently across a wide range of temperatures and does not require the same conservative charging limits that lithium-nickel batteries do.

BYD's Blade LFP chemistry means charging to 100% routinely is fine and does not accelerate battery wear. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Han need?

The Han supports 11kW AC charging on three phases, but as with most UK residential setups, a single-phase supply caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of cable. A 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 lead covers the full capability of a standard home wallbox and is the right first choice for most Han owners. The car will draw every kilowatt available on a single-phase supply through it.

Choosing a three-phase cable makes sense when you have a three-phase supply at home or frequently use 22kW public AC charge points. In those situations the Han accepts its full 11kW. On a single-phase setup, the cable type makes no difference to charging speed: 7.4kW is the ceiling however the cable is rated.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 85.4kWh battery from empty costs roughly £6 to £7 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £23 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. Running on an overnight EV tariff keeps daily costs competitive with smaller EVs if you are regularly charging to full. Public rapid charging at 45p to 80p per kWh is useful on longer routes but expensive as a default. Check current rates before setting a charging budget.

Contact us
What charging cable does the BYD Han need?+

The BYD Han has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

Can the BYD Han charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the BYD Han has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

Does the BYD Han support V2L?+

Yes. The BYD Han supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.

What cable does the BYD Han need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Han uses a Type 2 AC inlet, matching UK wallboxes and public AC charge points. For most owners on a single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW cable delivers the maximum available speed. A three-phase cable is only relevant if you have three-phase power at home or use 22kW public AC chargers regularly.

Can the BYD Han charge at 22kW on AC?+

No. The Han's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, so 11kW is the AC ceiling regardless of cable rating. On a standard single-phase home wallbox the rate drops to 7.4kW, set by the supply rather than the car or cable. A 22kW cable provides no benefit unless you are on a three-phase supply.

How long does a BYD Han take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 85.4kWh battery takes around 11 to 12 hours from empty to full. On a three-phase 11kW charger that drops to around 8 hours. BYD's LFP chemistry means charging to 100% every night is the normal and recommended approach, with no meaningful impact on battery longevity.

Is the BYD Han good for long motorway trips?+

The Han's 120kW DC rapid charging capability keeps motorway stops reasonably short, and the large 85.4kWh Blade LFP battery gives strong range on a full charge. Rapid DC charging uses the station's own tethered CCS cable, not the Type 2 lead you carry for home use. LFP chemistry also means the battery is more tolerant of frequent rapid charges than some alternative chemistries.
