Charge speeds

Across the Chery range.

Every Chery here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. AC charging tops out at 6.6kW across the range. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Chery.

Chery's UK line-up currently consists of three plug-in hybrid SUVs: the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid. All three use a Type 2 inlet, so they all take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging.

Every Chery in the range charges at 6.6kW AC on a single phase, which is already less than what a standard 7.4kW cable can deliver. None of them have a three-phase onboard charger, so there is no reason to buy a bigger cable. Pick your model below for its specific charge times, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Chery need?

Every Chery plug-in hybrid uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and wallboxes; choose 7m or 10m if you park on-street or your wallbox sits further from where you park. No Chery needs a Type 1 cable.

None of the three Chery models, including the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 or Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid, have a three-phase onboard charger. All charge at 6.6kW on a single phase, which is below the 7.4kW limit of a standard cable. A 7.4kW cable is already more than any of them can draw on AC, so there is no benefit to buying a 22kW cable for home or typical public AC charging.

Because these are plug-in hybrids with moderate battery sizes of around 18kWh to 34.5kWh, they also charge reasonably quickly from a standard wallbox. The smaller Tiggo 7 and 8 batteries can top up from a 3-pin granny charger overnight if you do not have a wallbox installed. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the right choice for the whole Chery range.

Do all Chery models use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. The Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid all use a Type 2 inlet, so they all take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. No Chery in the current UK range needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Chery Tiggo 7 or Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Both charge at 6.6kW AC on a single phase, so a standard 7.4kW cable is more than sufficient. There is no benefit to buying a larger cable, as neither model has a three-phase onboard charger.

Can a Chery charge at 22kW?+

No. None of the Chery plug-in hybrids have a three-phase onboard charger. The maximum AC charging rate across the range is 6.6kW, so a 7.4kW cable already exceeds what any Chery can draw. A 22kW cable would add cost with no benefit.

What about charging the Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid?+

The Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid also uses a Type 2 inlet and charges at 6.6kW AC, the same as the Tiggo 7 and 8. A standard 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is the right choice. Its larger 34.5kWh battery takes longer to charge than the smaller models, so a wallbox is more convenient than a 3-pin socket for overnight charging.

What length cable do I need for my Chery?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on-street, share a charger with another car, or your wallbox is positioned well away from the car. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably, as longer cables are heavier to carry and cost more.
