Citroen e-C3
Charging cable
The e-C3 is single-phase 7.4kW as standard. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, you need the 22kW cable to use it.
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your e-C3+−
The Citroen e-C3 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Citroen e-C3.
The Citroen e-C3 is a third-generation compact hatchback built on the Smart Car platform, on sale in the UK from 2024. It takes a deliberately practical approach to electrification: a 44kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a focus on comfort over performance, and a price point that makes it one of the most accessible new electric hatchbacks on the market. Like all UK-market EVs it uses a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC. When you plug into a wallbox or a public AC charger, the cable you provide is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
The standard e-C3 onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW on a single phase, which is important to understand before buying a cable. The car draws at most 7.4kW on AC, so the speed of a home charge depends on the charger, not the cable rating. DC rapid charging is handled through the CCS port and peaks at up to 100kW, using the charger's own tethered cable rather than anything you buy.
The e-C3's standard onboard charger is 7.4kW single-phase. An 11kW three-phase option is noted for some configurations, but on a typical UK home supply 7.4kW is the ceiling. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the e-C3 need?
Because the e-C3's onboard charger tops out at 7.4kW, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is all you need for home or public AC charging. The cable rating does not increase the speed beyond what the car's own charger can accept, so buying a 22kW cable for a 7.4kW car brings no benefit at a wallbox. The cable you need is a straightforward 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2, and a 5m length suits most driveways.
The only exception worth knowing: some e-C3 configurations offer an 11kW three-phase charger as an option. If you ordered that specification and you have a three-phase home supply or regularly use 22kW public AC points, a 22kW cable would let you reach 11kW on those chargers. For the large majority of e-C3 owners on a standard home supply with the 7.4kW charger, that scenario does not apply and the cheaper cable is the right call.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge on the 44kWh battery costs around £3 to £4 on an off-peak EV tariff of roughly 7.5p per kWh, and around £12 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. The e-C3 is genuinely cheap to run at home, and even at standard rates the cost per mile compares well with a small petrol car. Public rapid charging is far more expensive, typically 45p to 80p per kWh, so keeping the habit of overnight charging is the key to low running costs. Check current tariff rates, as they change.

Good
questions.

Contact usWhat charging cable does the Citroen e-C3 need?+−
The Citroen e-C3 has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Citroen e-C3 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The standard e-C3 onboard charger is rated at 7.4kW single-phase, so a 7.4kW cable delivers the car's full AC charging speed on a typical UK home supply. There is nothing to gain from a higher-rated cable unless you have the optional 11kW charger and a three-phase supply.
Can the Citroen e-C3 charge at 22kW?+−
No. The standard e-C3 is limited to 7.4kW on AC, and even with the optional 11kW onboard charger the maximum is 11kW on three phases. A 22kW cable does not change what the car can draw: the onboard charger sets the ceiling, not the cable.
How long does the Citroen e-C3 take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW wallbox the 44kWh battery takes around six hours from empty to full, which fits neatly into an overnight charge. On a three-pin household socket the same charge takes roughly 18 hours, which makes the three-pin route suitable only as an occasional backup.
What length cable suits the Citroen e-C3?+−
A 5m cable handles most driveway layouts without trouble. If the distance between your wallbox and where the car parks is on the generous side, or you tend to park nose-in with the charging port at the rear, a 7m lead gives a more comfortable reach. Going longer than necessary adds weight and clutter, so match length to your actual setup.
