Why this fits your e-C4 X+

The Citroen e-C4 X has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Citroen e-C4 X.

The Citroen e-C4 X is the fastback saloon variant of the e-C4 family, on sale in the UK from 2022. The longer, lower body gives it more boot space than the standard hatchback sibling, and the car carries a 50kWh battery with a 100kW CCS DC port for rapid charging. Some later builds use a 54kWh pack. The AC inlet is Type 2 on all versions, so the lead you buy for a home wallbox or a public AC charger is a Type 2 to Type 2 cable.

Before buying a cable, it is worth checking which onboard AC charger your specific car has. The standard e-C4 X is fitted with a 7.4kW single-phase unit; an 11kW three-phase charger was available as an option on some configurations. The difference matters because a higher-rated cable cannot make the car charge faster than its onboard charger allows. DC rapid charging up to 100kW uses the station's own tethered cable, not one you supply.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the e-C4 X need?

For the standard e-C4 X with its 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the correct and sufficient choice. The car's built-in charger is the bottleneck, not the cable: even a 22kW lead attached to a 22kW public AC charger will only deliver 7.4kW into the battery. There is nothing to gain from buying a higher-rated cable for the standard car.

If your e-C4 X has the optional 11kW three-phase charger, a 22kW-rated cable is useful at three-phase public AC charge points, where the car can pull its full 11kW. On a standard single-phase UK home supply the charge speed remains 7.4kW either way. Check the car's spec sheet or delivery documentation to confirm which charger your vehicle has before deciding.

A 5m cable is a good starting point for most driveways. If your wallbox is set back from the road, or the charging inlet falls on the far side of the car from the socket, a 7m lead removes any risk of stretching the cable taut.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 50kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4 at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £14 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. As a family-sized fastback used largely for daily commuting, the e-C4 X is well suited to overnight home charging, where the smaller pack means it refills quickly without needing a fast wallbox. Public rapid chargers typically run from 45p to 80p per kWh and are best saved for longer journeys. Always check current tariff rates.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Citroen e-C4 X need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. For the standard car with its 7.4kW single-phase charger, a 7.4kW cable is the right and complete answer. If your e-C4 X has the optional 11kW three-phase charger, a 22kW cable lets it pull full speed at three-phase public AC points; on a single-phase home supply it still maxes out at 7.4kW.

Can the Citroen e-C4 X charge at 22kW?+

No. Even with the optional 11kW three-phase charger, the maximum AC rate is 11kW. The standard car is limited to 7.4kW. No cable rating can push more power into the car than its onboard charger accepts, and on a standard UK single-phase home supply the ceiling is 7.4kW regardless of specification.

How long does the Citroen e-C4 X take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 50kWh battery takes around seven hours from empty, which fits comfortably in an overnight window. With the optional 11kW charger on a three-phase supply the time falls to roughly five hours. A granny cable on a household socket takes around eighteen hours and is best used as a backup.

What length cable do I need for the Citroen e-C4 X?+

A 5m cable handles most home driveway setups and public charge point bays. If there is a longer distance between your wallbox and the car, or the charging inlet ends up on the opposite side of the car from the socket, a 7m lead is worth choosing to avoid strain on the connector.
