Why this fits your DS 3 E-Tense+

The DS DS 3 E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 7.4kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

Which DS DS 3 E-Tense versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every DS DS 3 E-Tense, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • DS DS 3 E-Tense Etoile
  • DS DS 3 E-Tense Pallas
  • DS DS 3 E-Tense Esprit De Voyage

Whichever DS 3 E-Tense trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the DS DS 3 E-Tense.

The DS 3 E-Tense is the updated version of DS's compact electric SUV, on sale in the UK from 2022 with a slightly larger 54kWh battery replacing the earlier 50kWh unit. It keeps the same sleek, design-led crossover body but brings a modest range uplift, with WLTP figures typically around 220 miles. Charging happens through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapids.

When you pull up to a home wallbox or a public AC charger, you use a Type 2 to Type 2 cable you bring yourself. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW single-phase, with an 11kW three-phase charger available as an option on certain trim levels. DC rapid charging at up to 100kW relies on the charger's own tethered cable, not one you purchase.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the DS 3 E-Tense need?

Most DS 3 E-Tense owners will have the standard 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger. For them, a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is exactly right: it matches the car's maximum AC rate and costs less than a higher-rated alternative. At 7.4kW the 54kWh battery takes around 7.5 hours from empty, fitting neatly into an overnight charge.

If your DS 3 E-Tense has the optional 11kW three-phase charger, a 22kW cable lets you reach 11kW at a three-phase public AC station or a three-phase home supply. On a standard UK single-phase home, however, that charger still caps at 7.4kW, so the 22kW cable makes no speed difference there. The choice comes down to whether you have or plan to use three-phase AC points.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 54kWh battery from empty costs roughly £4 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £14.50 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Running on a cheap overnight tariff makes the DS 3 E-Tense very economical for daily use. Rapid public charging at 45p to 80p per kWh is significantly more expensive and best treated as a journey supplement rather than a routine. Always check current tariff rates.

Contact us
What charging cable does the DS DS 3 E-Tense need?+

The DS DS 3 E-Tense has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 7.4kW.

Can the DS DS 3 E-Tense charge at 22kW?+

Only with the optional three-phase onboard charger. The DS DS 3 E-Tense is single-phase 7.4kW as standard, so a 7.4kW cable delivers its full AC speed. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, choose the 22kW three-phase cable to use it.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the DS 3 E-Tense need for home charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Standard models have a 7.4kW single-phase charger, so a 7.4kW cable is the right match. If your car has the optional 11kW charger, consider a 22kW cable for use at three-phase AC points, but on a typical UK home supply the speed remains 7.4kW either way.

How long does the DS 3 E-Tense take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW wallbox, the 54kWh battery fills from empty in roughly 7.5 hours. That makes an overnight charge straightforward for most owners. On a 3-pin socket the same charge takes around 23 hours from empty, which is slow and better treated as an occasional backup rather than a daily routine.

Can the DS 3 E-Tense use rapid DC chargers?+

Yes, up to 100kW on compatible CCS rapid chargers. The rapid charger unit provides its own tethered cable, so no separate purchase is needed. For home and public AC charging you need a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, which you supply yourself. A 5m or 7m length covers most situations.

Is a 22kW cable worth buying for the DS 3 E-Tense?+

Only if your car has the optional 11kW three-phase onboard charger AND you use three-phase AC points regularly. On a standard single-phase home supply, a 22kW cable charges at exactly the same 7.4kW rate as a 7.4kW cable, so the extra cost brings no speed benefit in that scenario.
