Charge speeds

Across the Lexus range.

Every Lexus here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 6.6kW to 11kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Lexus.

Lexus offers a mix of battery-electric cars and plug-in hybrids in the UK: the RZ electric SUV, the ES 350e electric saloon, the UX 300e compact electric SUV, and the NX 450h+ and RX 450h+ plug-in hybrids. All five models use a Type 2 inlet, so every Lexus plug-in vehicle takes a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging.

What changes between models is AC charging speed, which determines whether a standard 7.4kW cable is all you need or whether a larger one is worth buying. The RZ and ES 350e have 11kW three-phase onboard chargers, while the PHEVs and the UX 300e charge more slowly on a single phase. Pick your model below for its exact recommended cable and charge times, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Lexus need?

Every Lexus EV and plug-in hybrid uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and public charge points; choose 7m or 10m for on-street parking or if your wallbox is some distance from where the car's inlet is positioned.

The Lexus RZ and ES 350e each have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Almost all UK homes are single-phase, which caps home charging at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating, so a 7.4kW cable already delivers the maximum speed a standard home supply can provide. A 22kW cable is only worth buying if you have a three-phase supply or regularly charge at 22kW public AC points, where these models will draw their full 11kW.

The NX 450h+, RX 450h+, and UX 300e all charge at 6.6kW on a single phase. A 7.4kW cable is more than any of them can draw, so there is no reason to pay for a higher-rated one. In short, a single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits the entire Lexus plug-in range.

Do all Lexus plug-in cars use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Every Lexus plug-in hybrid and electric car in the UK, including the RZ, ES 350e, UX 300e, NX 450h+, and RX 450h+, uses a Type 2 inlet. They all take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging. No Lexus needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Lexus RZ or ES 350e need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. Both models have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase UK home supply they charge at 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable delivers the full home speed. A 22kW cable only adds value at a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC point.

Can a Lexus charge at 22kW AC?+

No Lexus currently charges at 22kW on AC. The RZ and ES 350e top out at 11kW on three phases; the NX 450h+, RX 450h+, and UX 300e are limited to 6.6kW on a single phase. On a normal single-phase home the BEV models charge at 7.4kW, so a 22kW cable is not needed.

What cable does a Lexus NX 450h+ or RX 450h+ need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Both plug-in hybrids charge at up to 6.6kW on AC, so a 7.4kW cable is well matched to either model. Their 18.1kWh batteries can also be topped up overnight from a 3-pin granny charger if you prefer to keep the Type 2 cable for public charge points.

What length cable do I need for my Lexus?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is some distance from where the inlet sits on the car. Buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably, as longer cables are heavier to coil and carry.
