Why this fits your EQE Saloon+

The Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon (V295 generation) is the electric equivalent of the E-Class in the traditional Mercedes lineup, a full-sized executive saloon aimed squarely at the premium end of the UK market. It launched in 2022 with a 90.6kWh usable battery, enough for around 260 to 360 miles WLTP depending on specification and conditions. The AC inlet is Type 2, as it is on almost every car of this generation sold in Britain, with CCS for rapid DC charging.

Home and public AC charging requires a Type 2 to Type 2 cable, which you supply yourself. The EQE's standard onboard charger runs at 11kW on three phases, with an optional upgrade to 22kW available on certain specifications. DC rapid charging reaches up to 170kW on suitable chargers, using the station's own tethered cable rather than anything you purchase.

With a 90.6kWh battery, the EQE is best paired with a home wallbox and a dedicated overnight EV tariff. The standard 11kW onboard charger is enough to restore a full charge while you sleep. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the EQE Saloon need?

On a standard UK single-phase home supply, the EQE charges at 7.4kW, and a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers that in full. The car's 11kW ceiling is only reachable on a three-phase source, and three-phase residential supplies are genuinely uncommon in the UK. For the majority of EQE owners, the 7.4kW cable is the practical choice: it matches your home supply and the cost difference versus a higher-rated cable is better spent elsewhere.

If your EQE has the optional 22kW onboard charger and you have access to a three-phase supply at home or at a destination charger, a 22kW cable becomes relevant: the car would draw up to 22kW and your charging time would drop considerably compared with single-phase. But this only applies when all three conditions align: three-phase supply, 22kW-capable charger point, and the optional hardware in your specific car. On a standard single-phase setup the charging speed is 7.4kW whichever cable you plug in.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 90.6kWh battery from empty costs roughly £7 on an off-peak tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, and around £24 to £25 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. Given the battery size, an overnight EV tariff makes a considerable difference to running costs over a year. Public rapid charging is an expensive way to keep a large-battery car topped up, often 50p or more per kWh at motorway hubs, so it is worth planning longer trips to minimise reliance on it. Always check current tariff rates.

Good

Contact us
What charging cable does the Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon need?+

The Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 22kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Mercedes-Benz EQE need for charging?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC chargers. The EQE uses a Type 2 AC inlet as standard. A 5m cable covers most driveways; choose a 7m or 10m lead if your wallbox is further from your parking position.

Can the Mercedes-Benz EQE Saloon charge at 22kW?+

Only if your specific car has the optional 22kW onboard charger fitted. The standard EQE charges at 11kW on three phases. Either way, you also need a three-phase supply to benefit: on a standard single-phase UK home, any EQE charges at 7.4kW regardless of which cable or wallbox is used.

How long does the Mercedes-Benz EQE take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 90.6kWh battery takes around 12 to 12.5 hours from empty, which is a long overnight charge but well within an evening-to-morning window. On a slow 3-pin socket expect around 45 hours from empty, making a dedicated wallbox essential for this size of battery.

Does the EQE Saloon use the same charging cable as the EQE SUV?+

Yes. Both the EQE Saloon and EQE SUV share the standard Type 2 AC inlet, so the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable works for both. The onboard charger specs differ by model variant and optional upgrades, but the cable connector is identical across the EQE range.
