Why this fits your Cyberster+

The MG Cyberster has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which MG Cyberster versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every MG Cyberster, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • MG Cyberster GT
  • MG Cyberster Trophy

Whichever Cyberster trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the MG Cyberster.

The MG Cyberster is MG's two-seat electric roadster, on sale in the UK from 2024 in GT and Trophy trims. It uses a 77kWh usable battery and is capable of up to 144kW DC rapid charging via a CCS port. AC charging is handled through a Type 2 inlet rated at 11kW on three phases, which puts the Cyberster at the more capable end of mid-market electric cars for AC charging speed.

For everyday charging at home or at a public AC point, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Cyberster's 11kW onboard AC charger can only draw that rate on a three-phase supply or a 22kW public AC charger. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox the charge rate is limited to 7.4kW regardless of the cable or the car's onboard rating. DC rapid charging via CCS uses the charger's own tethered cable.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Cyberster need?

The Cyberster can draw up to 11kW on a three-phase supply, such as a 22kW public AC charger. In that situation a 22kW rated cable lets the car reach its 11kW maximum, whereas a 7.4kW cable limits the charge to 7.4kW even on a three-phase charger. If you regularly use 22kW public AC charge points, the upgrade to a 22kW cable is worth considering.

For home charging on a standard single-phase wallbox, the charge rate is 7.4kW no matter which cable you choose, because the supply itself is the limiting factor. Most owners charge the Cyberster at home, and for that use case a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is entirely sufficient. A 5m cable handles most home driveways; a 7m lead gives more reach if the wallbox is further back or the routing is awkward on a two-seater's low-slung inlet.

What does it cost to charge?

Filling the 77kWh battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £5.75. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh the same fill costs around £21. For a car that may see less daily mileage than a family car, nightly top-ups from partial charge are the norm, keeping the actual overnight energy cost lower. Check current tariff rates, as they vary by supplier and time of use.

Contact us
What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

Does the MG Cyberster support V2L?+

Yes. The MG Cyberster supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.

What charging cable does the MG Cyberster need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Cyberster's AC inlet is Type 2 and the onboard charger is rated at 11kW on three phases. For home charging on a single-phase wallbox a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available rate. A 22kW cable earns its keep if you regularly charge at three-phase public AC points, where the car can access its full 11kW.

Can the MG Cyberster charge at 22kW?+

No. The Cyberster's onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW, not 22kW, so even on a three-phase supply with a 22kW cable the rate peaks at 11kW. On a standard single-phase UK home wallbox the charge rate is 7.4kW. A 22kW cable on a single-phase home supply still only delivers 7.4kW, not more.

How long does the MG Cyberster take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 77kWh battery takes around 10.5 hours from empty to full, which comfortably fits an overnight charge. Using a 3-pin granny cable at around 2.3kW extends that to well over 30 hours, so a wallbox is strongly recommended. At a 144kW CCS rapid charger the Cyberster can add significant range in a short stop.

What length cable do I need for the MG Cyberster?+

A 5m cable works well for most home driveways. Because the Cyberster is a low-slung roadster, the charging inlet position and cable routing may differ from taller cars, so having a little extra length is sensible. A 7m lead is worth considering if the wallbox is more than a few metres from where the car sits, or if the inlet is on the far side from the socket.
