MG MG4 Urban
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your MG4 Urban+−
The MG MG4 Urban has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which MG MG4 Urban versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every MG MG4 Urban, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- MG MG4 Urban SE
- MG MG4 Urban Trophy
- MG MG4 Urban XPower
Whichever MG4 Urban trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the MG MG4 Urban.
The MG4 Urban is the second-generation MG4 hatchback, launched in 2026 and sold alongside the original MG4 EV. It uses LFP battery chemistry in two capacities: a 42.8kWh Short Range and a 53.9kWh Long Range, both of which charge via a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC. AC charging tops out at 11kW on three phases, while DC peaks at 82kW for the Short Range and 87kWh for the Long Range. The MG4 Urban is a practical, affordable hatchback with a real 10-to-80% rapid charge time of around 28 to 30 minutes.
Any AC charging session, whether at your home wallbox, a workplace charger, or a public AC point, uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable that you bring with the car. As a hatchback, cable storage is straightforward: most owners keep the lead in the boot. The MG4 Urban's LFP battery is tolerant of frequent charging to 100%, so you do not need to manage charge limits as carefully as with some other chemistries.
Select your battery above. The Short Range 42.8kWh pack fills more quickly at home and on DC. The Long Range 53.9kWh pack offers more daily range for the same 11kW AC rate. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the MG4 Urban need?
The MG4 Urban uses a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging. Because it is a compact hatchback rather than a larger SUV, a 5m cable is particularly useful: it gives enough reach from a wallbox mounted at average height without a long coil of surplus lead to manage. The onboard charger handles up to 11kW, but the relevant figure for home use is 7.4kW, which is the maximum a standard single-phase UK wallbox can provide. A 7.4kW cable fully exploits what a home charger offers.
A 22kW three-phase cable is only worth considering if you have access to a three-phase supply at home or your place of work, or if you regularly charge at 22kW public AC points. At those stations, the MG4 Urban's 11kW onboard charger will work harder than it can on a single-phase connection, cutting AC charging time roughly in half compared to a 7.4kW session. For straightforward home charging, the 7.4kW cable is all you need.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 53.9kWh Long Range from empty costs roughly £4 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £15 at a standard domestic rate of around 27p per kWh. The 42.8kWh Short Range is around 20% cheaper per full charge. The MG4 Urban's relatively modest battery size means home charging costs are low either way, and an off-peak tariff keeps them lower still. Public rapid charging at 45p to 80p per kWh is far more expensive than home rates. Check your supplier for current figures.

MG MG4 Urban FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the MG MG4 Urban need?+−
The MG MG4 Urban has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
Can the MG MG4 Urban charge at 22kW?+−
Yes, the MG MG4 Urban has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
Does the MG MG4 Urban support V2L?+−
Yes. The MG MG4 Urban supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.
What charging cable does the MG4 Urban need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. A 5m, 7.4kW cable is the right choice for most home setups. The MG4 Urban's onboard charger accepts up to 11kW on three phases, so a 22kW cable only benefits owners with a three-phase supply or regular access to 22kW public AC stations.
Can the MG4 Urban charge at 22kW AC?+−
No. The onboard charger on the MG4 Urban is rated at 11kW on three phases, so 22kW is not achievable. On a standard single-phase home supply the ceiling is 7.4kW regardless of cable rating. At a 22kW public AC station with a three-phase cable, the car draws 11kW.
How long does the MG4 Urban take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox, the 53.9kWh Long Range needs around 7 to 7.5 hours from near-empty. The 42.8kWh Short Range charges in around 5.5 hours. The LFP battery is fine charged to 100%, so most owners can simply plug in each evening and wake to a full car.
How fast does the MG4 Urban charge on DC rapid chargers?+−
The 53.9kWh Long Range accepts up to 87kW DC and goes from 10% to 80% in roughly 28 to 30 minutes. The 42.8kWh Short Range manages up to 82kW and charges a touch quicker at around 26 minutes to 80%. DC charging uses the station's own tethered lead.
