The 4 is 11kW three-phase as standard. The optional 22kW charger charges faster on a three-phase supply. The 22kW cable is the right one either way.

Why this fits your 4+

The Polestar 4 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Polestar 4 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Polestar 4, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Polestar 4 Long Range Single Motor
  • Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor
  • Polestar 4 Performance Pack
  • Polestar 4 Plus Pack
  • Polestar 4 Pro Pack
  • Polestar 4 Pilot Pack

Whichever 4 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Polestar 4.

The Polestar 4 is a distinctive electric SUV coupe built on Geely's SEA platform and on sale in the UK from 2024. It stands out for its roofline design and its removal of the traditional rear window in favour of a rear-facing camera. The gross battery is around 100kWh, with Long Range Single and Dual Motor variants available alongside a Performance Pack. Charging for home and public AC top-ups uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you provide is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.

The standard onboard AC charger handles 11kW on three phases, with a 22kW three-phase charger available as an option. DC rapid charging reaches up to 200kW via the CCS port, which is served by the rapid charger's own tethered cable.

Check which AC charger your Polestar 4 has: standard 11kW or optional 22kW. The cable choice follows from that. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the 4 need?

The Polestar 4 is unusual in offering an optional 22kW three-phase onboard charger alongside the standard 11kW unit. If your car has the standard 11kW charger, a 22kW cable allows you to pull 11kW at three-phase public AC points, but on a standard UK single-phase home wallbox the ceiling remains 7.4kW. For home-only charging on single-phase, a 7.4kW cable delivers every watt available.

If your Polestar 4 has the optional 22kW charger, the picture changes on a three-phase supply: the car can now pull the full 22kW at a matching three-phase public AC charger, which fills the 100kWh battery in around four to five hours. That requires both the 22kW onboard charger and a 22kW cable rated for three-phase. Most UK homes remain single-phase, so the practical home charging speed is 7.4kW regardless of which charger the car has. Verify your spec before buying the cable.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 100kWh battery from empty at an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh costs roughly £7 to £8. At a standard rate of around 27p per kWh that rises to around £27. The Polestar 4 is a car where getting on an overnight EV tariff makes a real difference to running costs given the large battery. Public rapid DC is the right tool for motorway trips but is far more expensive per kWh than home charging. Check current tariffs, as rates change.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What charging cable does the Polestar 4 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for wallboxes and public AC points. The standard onboard charger is 11kW three-phase. On a typical single-phase UK home, a 7.4kW cable delivers the full available speed. If your Polestar 4 has the optional 22kW charger, a 22kW cable lets it charge at 22kW at a three-phase public AC point.

Can the Polestar 4 charge at 22kW?+

Only if your car has the optional 22kW three-phase onboard charger, and you are connected to a three-phase supply. The standard car tops out at 11kW AC. On a UK single-phase home wallbox, charging is capped at 7.4kW regardless of which onboard charger or cable is fitted.

How long does the Polestar 4 take to charge at home?+

On a standard 7.4kW single-phase wallbox, the 100kWh battery takes roughly 13 to 14 hours from empty: plugging in overnight and topping up regularly, rather than running down completely, is the practical approach. On a three-phase supply at 11kW the time falls to around 9 hours; with the optional 22kW charger on three phase it drops to around four to five hours.

What cable length do I need for the Polestar 4?+

A 5m cable suits most driveways where the wallbox is close to where the car parks. The Polestar 4 is a mid-sized SUV coupe, so cable reach is rarely a problem with 5m, but if your wallbox sits at the far end of the parking bay a 7m lead gives more comfort. A 10m cable is worth considering for trickier driveway layouts.
