Porsche Taycan
Charging cable
The Taycan is 11kW three-phase as standard. The optional 22kW charger charges faster on a three-phase supply. The 22kW cable is the right one either way.
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Taycan+−
The Porsche Taycan has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Porsche Taycan versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Porsche Taycan, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Porsche Taycan 4
- Porsche Taycan 4S
- Porsche Taycan GTS
- Porsche Taycan Plus
- Porsche Taycan Turbo
- Porsche Taycan 4 Plus
Whichever Taycan trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Porsche Taycan.
The Porsche Taycan is a fully electric four-door saloon, on sale in the UK since 2019 and available in a range of trims from the entry 4 through to the Turbo. It is built on Porsche's 800V architecture and carries a Performance Battery Plus with around 97kWh usable. The car has a Type 2 inlet for AC charging and a CCS port for DC rapid charging.
For day-to-day charging at home or at public AC stations, you bring a Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, and an optional 22kW AC charger is available on some versions. DC rapid charging at up to 320kW uses the charger's own tethered cable, not one you buy, and the 800V platform means the Taycan is one of the fastest AC and DC chargers in its class.
Standard AC is 11kW three-phase. An optional 22kW onboard charger is available. Check your specific trim's specification to confirm which is fitted. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Taycan need?
The Taycan's standard 11kW onboard charger can make full use of a three-phase supply, but that setup is uncommon in UK homes. Most households have a single-phase connection, which caps AC charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable you buy. On a typical home wallbox a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable delivers the maximum speed a single-phase supply can offer, and that is the right starting point for most Taycan owners.
If your car is fitted with the optional 22kW onboard charger and you either have a three-phase home supply or regularly use 22kW public AC points, a 22kW three-phase cable earns its place. On a three-phase supply the Taycan will charge at its full 11kW (or 22kW with the option fitted), cutting the time to fill the large battery noticeably. On a single-phase home the cable charges at the same 7.4kW regardless of its rating.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 97kWh usable battery from empty costs roughly £7 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £26 at a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. Overnight charging on a dedicated EV tariff is by far the cheapest way to run the Taycan. Public rapid charging can cost 45p to 80p per kWh or more and is best used for longer trips rather than routine top-ups. Check current tariff rates, as they vary.

Porsche Taycan FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Porsche Taycan need?+−
The Porsche Taycan has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
Can the Porsche Taycan charge at 22kW?+−
As standard the Porsche Taycan has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger; the optional 22kW charger lets it charge at up to 22kW on a three-phase supply. Either way it uses the same 22kW three-phase cable.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Porsche Taycan need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC points. The Taycan has an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger as standard (22kW optional). On a typical single-phase UK home supply, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable gives the full speed available. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable.
Can the Porsche Taycan charge at 22kW AC?+−
Only if the optional 22kW onboard charger is fitted and a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC point is available. The standard car is limited to 11kW AC. On a typical single-phase UK home supply, AC charging is capped at 7.4kW regardless of which onboard charger is fitted.
How long does a Porsche Taycan take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 97kWh battery takes around 13 to 14 hours from empty. On an 11kW three-phase supply the standard charger fills it in roughly nine hours. For longer trips, the Taycan's DC rapid charging at up to 320kW is significantly quicker.
What length cable do I need for the Porsche Taycan?+−
A 5m cable suits most home driveways and garages. If your wallbox is positioned at a distance from where the Taycan parks, or the cable needs to reach around the vehicle to the charging port, a 7m or 10m lead is a sensible precaution for a relaxed, repeatable connection each time.
