Why this fits your Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo+

The Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo.

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo are estate-bodied variants of the Taycan saloon, introduced in 2021. They share the same 800V electric platform and use a Type 2 inlet for AC charging alongside a CCS port for DC rapid charging. The usable battery is around 83.7kWh and DC charging is supported at up to 270kW.

At home or at public AC chargers, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW on three phases, with an optional 22kW AC unit available. DC rapid charging at up to 270kW uses the charger's own tethered cable, not a portable lead you carry. The estate body makes the Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo especially practical for longer journeys that mix home overnight charging with fast DC top-ups.

Standard AC is 11kW three-phase. An optional 22kW onboard AC charger is available on some cars. Check the specification of your individual vehicle. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo need?

The Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo both use an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger as standard. In a UK home context, single-phase supplies limit AC charging to 7.4kW, so on a typical home wallbox a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable already delivers the maximum speed your supply can provide. That is the practical choice for most home charging.

A 22kW-rated cable is only worth the extra cost if you have a three-phase supply at home (uncommon for UK residences) or you frequently charge at 22kW public AC stations. If the optional 22kW onboard charger is fitted, the car will pull its full capacity on a three-phase connection, which cuts charge time noticeably on the near-84kWh battery. On a single-phase setup the cable charges at 7.4kW either way.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 83.7kWh usable battery from empty costs roughly £6 on an off-peak EV tariff of around 7.5p per kWh, or around £23 on a standard rate of around 27p per kWh. An overnight EV tariff is comfortably the cheapest way to keep the battery topped up. Public DC rapid charging can cost considerably more per kWh, so it is better suited to longer trips than daily use. Check current tariff rates.

Good
questions.

Contact us
What charging cable does the Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo need?+

The Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.

Can the Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo charge at 22kW?+

As standard the Porsche Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger; the optional 22kW charger lets it charge at up to 22kW on a three-phase supply. Either way it uses the same 22kW three-phase cable.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

What cable does the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for AC charging at home or at public AC points. The Cross Turismo uses an 11kW three-phase onboard AC charger as standard (22kW optional). On a typical single-phase UK home, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable delivers the maximum AC speed available. DC rapid charging uses the charger's own tethered CCS cable.

How does the Taycan Cross Turismo compare to the Taycan saloon for charging?+

The Cross Turismo shares the same Type 2 AC inlet and CCS DC port as the saloon. The onboard AC charger options are the same: 11kW standard, 22kW optional. The main difference is the battery: the Cross Turismo uses an 83.7kWh usable pack versus the saloon's 97kWh, so it charges slightly quicker for a given charger speed.

How long does the Taycan Cross Turismo take to charge at home?+

On a 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 83.7kWh battery takes around 11 to 12 hours from empty. On an 11kW three-phase supply that drops to around eight hours. DC rapid charging at up to 270kW is considerably faster for top-ups on the road.

What length cable is best for the Taycan Cross Turismo?+

A 5m cable is a good starting point for most home installations. The Cross Turismo is a long estate car, so if your wallbox is positioned at one end of the car and the charging port ends up at the other, a 7m or 10m lead avoids having to reposition the car each time you plug in.
