Renault 5 E-Tech
Charging cable
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your 5 E-Tech+−
The Renault 5 E-Tech has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.
Which Renault 5 E-Tech versions does it fit?+
This cable fits every Renault 5 E-Tech, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:
- Renault 5 E-Tech evolution
- Renault 5 E-Tech techno
- Renault 5 E-Tech iconic five
- Renault 5 E-Tech urban range
- Renault 5 E-Tech comfort range
Whichever 5 E-Tech trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Renault 5 E-Tech.
The Renault 5 E-Tech is a modern reinterpretation of one of France's most iconic small cars, launched in the UK in 2024 on Renault's AmpR Small platform. It comes in two battery sizes: a 40kWh pack aimed at urban use under the Urban Range name, and a 52kWh pack in the higher Comfort Range trims for buyers who want more flexibility on longer journeys. Both charge through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for DC rapid sessions. The cable you supply for home or public AC charging is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead.
AC charging capacity varies by trim. Most 52kWh Comfort Range models have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger; some 40kWh Urban Range trims are rated at 7.4kW single-phase. Both variants can rapid charge at up to 100kW on DC, which uses the charger's own tethered cable. The Renault 5 E-Tech also has V2L capability, which lets it power devices or a second vehicle through an adaptor, though that does not affect the cable you need for charging.
The Urban Range 40kWh fills faster at every charging speed. The Comfort Range 52kWh adds useful distance for motorway or mixed driving. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the 5 E-Tech need?
For Renault 5 E-Tech owners on a standard UK single-phase home supply, a 7.4kW Type 2 cable is the right starting point. Single-phase supplies cap the charge rate at 7.4kW no matter what cable you use, and that rate fills even the larger 52kWh Comfort Range battery from a sensible daily charge level comfortably overnight. Whether your trim has the 7.4kW or 11kW onboard charger makes no practical difference at a single-phase home wallbox.
The 11kW onboard charger found on Comfort Range trims shows its value at three-phase chargers: at a 22kW public AC point with a 22kW cable, the car draws 11kW and charges the 52kWh pack from empty in under five hours. If you regularly park at a workplace or shopping centre with 22kW AC infrastructure, a 22kW cable earns its slightly higher price. Without that three-phase access, the 7.4kW cable gives identical results at home and is the sensible buy.
What does it cost to charge?
A full charge on the 52kWh Comfort Range costs around £4 on an off-peak EV tariff of roughly 7.5p per kWh, and around £14 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. The 40kWh Urban Range costs around £3 off-peak and roughly £11 at standard rates. Either pack makes the 5 E-Tech genuinely inexpensive to run at home overnight. Public rapid charging is considerably dearer, often 45p to 80p per kWh, so reserving it for trips rather than routine use keeps running costs low. Check current tariffs before you budget.

Renault 5 E-Tech FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Renault 5 E-Tech need?+−
The Renault 5 E-Tech has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
Does the Renault 5 E-Tech support V2L?+−
Yes. The Renault 5 E-Tech supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.
What cable does the Renault 5 E-Tech need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home wallboxes and public AC chargers. The 52kWh Comfort Range typically has an 11kW onboard charger; some 40kWh Urban Range trims have 7.4kW. On a standard single-phase UK home supply, a 7.4kW cable gives the full available speed regardless of which charger the car has.
Can the Renault 5 E-Tech charge at 22kW?+−
No. The maximum AC rate is 11kW on three phases for Comfort Range trims with the larger charger, and 7.4kW for standard trims. A 22kW cable at a single-phase home still charges at 7.4kW. At a 22kW public AC charger the car draws up to its onboard charger limit: 11kW or 7.4kW depending on trim.
How long does the Renault 5 E-Tech take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW wallbox the 52kWh Comfort Range takes around seven hours from empty, and the 40kWh Urban Range around five and a half hours. Both fit easily into an overnight charge. Three-pin household charging takes around 20 hours for the 52kWh and around 16 hours for the 40kWh, so a dedicated wallbox makes a real difference.
What length cable suits the Renault 5 E-Tech?+−
A 5m cable works well for the Renault 5's compact footprint on most driveways. If your wallbox is set back or the cable needs to reach around the car from a tricky angle, a 7m lead is a practical upgrade. The car's small size means that longer leads are rarely needed but can help on awkward drives.
