Charge speeds

Across the SEAT range.

Every SEAT here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 3.6kW to 7.2kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your SEAT.

SEAT's plug-in range in the UK currently covers two models: the Mii Electric city car and the Leon eHybrid plug-in hybrid. Both use a Type 2 inlet, so they take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging.

Neither model exceeds 7.2kW on AC, which means both sit within the ceiling of a standard single-phase UK home supply. The Mii Electric charges at up to 7.2kW, while the Leon eHybrid is limited to 3.6kW. In both cases a 7.4kW cable is already more than the car can draw. Pick your model below for its exact charging times and recommended cable, or read the brand-wide guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a SEAT need?

Both SEAT models use a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and wallboxes; choose 7m or 10m for on-street parking or when the socket is some distance from the charging port.

The Mii Electric charges at up to 7.2kW on AC and the Leon eHybrid at 3.6kW. Neither model has a three-phase onboard charger, so a three-phase supply or 22kW public AC point offers no advantage. A standard 7.4kW cable is already above what both models can accept, making it the right choice across the board.

The Leon eHybrid's 10.4kWh battery is small enough to top up fully overnight from a 3-pin granny charger if you prefer to keep the Type 2 lead for public points. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits both SEAT models.

Do all SEAT models use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Both SEAT plug-in models sold in the UK, the Mii Electric and the Leon eHybrid, use a Type 2 inlet. They both take a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging, and neither requires a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does the SEAT Mii Electric need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Mii Electric charges at up to 7.2kW on AC, so a standard 7.4kW cable is more than enough. There is no benefit in buying a larger cable for this model.

What cable does the SEAT Leon eHybrid need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Leon eHybrid charges at 3.6kW on AC and has a 10.4kWh battery, so a standard 7.4kW cable is well above what it can draw. Its small battery also charges fully overnight from a 3-pin granny charger if you prefer to keep the Type 2 lead for public points.

Can a SEAT charge at 22kW or 11kW on AC?+

No. Neither current SEAT model has a three-phase onboard charger. The Mii Electric tops out at 7.2kW and the Leon eHybrid at 3.6kW, both on a single phase. A larger cable cannot increase the charging speed beyond what the car's onboard charger allows.

What length charging cable do I need for my SEAT?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your socket is a fair distance from the charging port. Since both SEAT models charge relatively slowly, cable length has no effect on speed, but the right length avoids stress on the connectors.
