Why this fits your #1+

The Smart #1 has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 22kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 22kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

Which Smart #1 versions does it fit?+

This cable fits every Smart #1, because they all share the same Type 2 charging inlet. That includes:

  • Smart #1 Pro
  • Smart #1 Pure
  • Smart #1 Pulse
  • Smart #1 Brabus
  • Smart #1 Premium
  • Smart #1 Pro Plus

Whichever #1 trim you drive, it is the same cable, so you can order with confidence.

How long does it take?

Charging
the Smart #1.

The Smart #1 is a compact electric SUV from the reborn Smart brand, developed with Geely and on sale in the UK from 2023. It carries a 66kWh usable battery and charges through a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for rapid DC at up to around 150kW. Trims run from the entry Pure through Pro, Pulse, Premium, and Pro Plus up to the performance-oriented Brabus model.

At home and at public AC stations, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The Smart #1's onboard AC charger is rated at up to 22kW on three phases, which is among the highest AC charging rates available on any car in this class and opens up genuinely faster charging at compatible public AC points.

7.4 kW or 22 kW?

Which cable does
the #1 need?

The Smart #1's 22kW AC charger is genuinely capable, but realising that speed requires a three-phase electricity supply at both the car and the charger. In a UK home, the domestic supply is almost always single-phase, capping any wallbox at 7.4kW. For home use, a 7.4kW cable is all you can practically use, and it charges the #1 at the full home speed available to you.

The case for a 22kW three-phase cable is real but specific. If you have a three-phase supply fitted at your property, or you regularly stop at 22kW public AC charge points during the day, the #1 will accept its full onboard rate at those locations and charge noticeably faster than an 11kW car would. On any standard single-phase home setup, the 22kW cable performs identically to the 7.4kW option, so only buy it if you have the infrastructure to back it up.

What does it cost to charge?

Charging the 66kWh battery from empty costs roughly £5 on an off-peak EV tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, or around £18 at a standard rate of roughly 27p per kWh. An overnight charge on a dedicated EV tariff covers a full battery for well under typical petrol costs per equivalent distance. Public rapid DC charging is considerably more expensive per kWh, so home charging where possible keeps running costs down. Always check current tariff rates.

Good
questions.

Contact us
Can the Smart #1 charge at 22kW?+

Yes, the Smart #1 has a three-phase onboard charger, so with a 22kW cable and a three-phase supply it can charge at up to 22kW.

What length charging cable should I get?+

5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.

Does the Smart #1 support V2L?+

Yes. The Smart #1 supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.

What charging cable does the Smart #1 need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Smart #1's onboard AC charger supports up to 22kW on three phases. For a standard single-phase UK home wallbox, a 7.4kW cable gives the maximum home speed. A 22kW cable is worthwhile if you have a three-phase supply at home or regularly charge at 22kW public AC points.

Can the Smart #1 actually charge at 22kW?+

Yes, but only on a three-phase supply. The onboard charger supports up to 22kW on three phases at a compatible 22kW public AC point or three-phase home charger. On a standard UK single-phase home wallbox, the Smart #1 charges at 7.4kW regardless of cable rating.

How long does the Smart #1 take to charge at home?+

On a standard 7.4kW single-phase home wallbox, the 66kWh battery takes around 9 hours from empty, fitting overnight charging comfortably. On a 22kW three-phase supply the same charge takes around 3 hours. Rapid DC charging at up to 150kW is much faster and is designed for motorway stops.

Which Smart #1 trims come with the larger battery?+

All Smart #1 variants available in the UK, from Pure through to Brabus, use the same 66kWh usable battery. The primary differences between trims are power output, equipment levels, and in the case of the Brabus, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. All use the same Type 2 cable.
