Vauxhall Frontera Electric
Charging cable
The Frontera Electric is single-phase 7.4kW as standard. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, you need the 22kW cable to use it.
Charges about 50% faster on 22 kW public posts than a 7.4 kW cable.
Why this fits your Frontera Electric+−
The Vauxhall Frontera Electric has a Type 2 inlet and a three-phase 11kW onboard charger. The 22kW cable carries its full 11kW on three-phase chargers. A 7.4kW cable would cap it. On a single-phase home wallbox both cables charge at the same 7.4kW.

How long does it take?
Charging
the Vauxhall Frontera Electric.
The Vauxhall Frontera Electric is a value-focused compact SUV that revives a familiar Vauxhall name for the EV era, on sale in the UK from 2024. Its 44kWh LFP battery suits everyday urban and suburban driving, with DC rapid charging of up to 100kW adding flexibility for longer trips. The Frontera Electric charges via a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS socket for DC.
For home wallboxes and public AC posts, the cable you bring is a Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 7.4kW on single phase; an 11kW three-phase charger is available as an option. DC rapid charging at up to 100kW uses the charger's own tethered cable, so there is nothing extra to carry for fast-charging stops.
The standard Frontera Electric charges at 7.4kW single-phase. An 11kW three-phase AC charger is available as an option: verify your trim specification before choosing a cable. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the Frontera Electric need?
The Frontera Electric's standard 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger matches neatly with what most UK home wallboxes supply. You do not need a cable rated higher than 7.4kW to get the best home-charging speed as standard. On a 7.4kW wallbox the 44kWh battery takes around 6 hours from empty, which is well within an overnight window on most setups.
The optional 11kW three-phase charger only makes a practical difference if you have a three-phase electricity supply, either at home or at a workplace or public AC post. Without that, a three-phase cable connected to a standard single-phase wallbox charges at exactly the same 7.4kW as a standard lead. If you have three-phase and plan to use 22kW public AC chargers regularly, the upgrade makes sense. For everyone else, the 7.4kW cable is the right choice.
What does it cost to charge?
Filling the 44kWh LFP battery from empty costs roughly £3.30 on an off-peak tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £12 at the standard 27p rate. The Frontera Electric's compact battery is one of the cheapest among current electric SUVs to charge fully, and LFP chemistry means you can routinely charge to 100% without concern for long-term battery health. Public rapid charging at 45p to 80p per kWh quickly adds up, so it is best used on journeys rather than as a daily routine. Check your current tariff before planning costs.

Vauxhall Frontera Electric FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the Vauxhall Frontera Electric need?+−
The Vauxhall Frontera Electric has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on up to three-phase AC at up to 11kW.
Can the Vauxhall Frontera Electric charge at 22kW?+−
Only with the optional three-phase onboard charger. The Vauxhall Frontera Electric is single-phase 7.4kW as standard, so a 7.4kW cable delivers its full AC speed. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, choose the 22kW three-phase cable to use it.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
What cable does the Vauxhall Frontera Electric need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The Frontera Electric's standard onboard charger is 7.4kW single-phase, so a 7.4kW lead is the correct choice for most owners on a domestic wallbox. If your car has the optional 11kW three-phase charger and you have access to three-phase power, a three-phase cable allows you to charge at the full rate at suitable public AC posts.
Can the Vauxhall Frontera Electric charge at 11kW?+−
Only if the optional 11kW three-phase charger is fitted. The standard Frontera Electric is rated at 7.4kW single-phase. Even with the 11kW option, you need a three-phase electricity supply to benefit: on a standard UK single-phase domestic wallbox the charging speed remains at 7.4kW regardless of which charger or cable you use.
How long does the Vauxhall Frontera Electric take to charge at home?+−
On a 7.4kW home wallbox the 44kWh battery takes around 6 hours from empty to full, comfortably within an overnight charge. If your car has the optional 11kW charger and you have a three-phase supply, that drops to around 4 hours. A domestic three-pin socket at around 2.3kW takes around 19 hours, which makes it suitable only for emergencies or supplementary top-ups.
What length cable do I need for the Vauxhall Frontera Electric?+−
A 5m cable covers the majority of home driveways and public charging bays without excess cable to coil. If your wallbox is positioned further from your usual parking spot, or you often arrive with the car nose-forward when the wallbox is at the back, 7m gives a comfortable margin. A 10m lead suits particularly long or awkward layouts where a shorter cable would be stretched tight.
