MG MG4 EV
Charging cable
The MG4 EV is single-phase 7.4kW as standard. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, you need the 22kW cable to use it.
Full AC charging speed for your car.
Why this fits your MG4 EV+−
The MG MG4 EV has a Type 2 inlet and a single-phase 6.6kW onboard charger. A 7.4kW cable already delivers its full AC speed. The 22kW option only helps if your next car charges faster.

How long does it take?
Charging
the MG MG4 EV.
The MG4 EV is MG's MULAN-platform electric hatchback, on sale in the UK from 2022. It is offered in two main battery sizes: the SE Standard uses a 51kWh LFP pack, while Long Range models step up to 64kWh. There is also an XPower dual-motor version. All variants use a Type 2 inlet for AC and a CCS port for rapid DC charging.
Home charging and public AC posts both require a Type 2 to Type 2 cable from you. The MG4's onboard AC charger is rated at 6.6kW as standard on a single phase, with an optional 11kW three-phase charger on some trims. DC rapid charging at up to 135kW or 150kW depending on battery uses the charger's own tethered cable, not one you carry.
The SE Standard and Long Range packs both charge through the same onboard AC charger. Pick your battery above to see fill times. Rapid (DC) times are for a 10 to 80% charge, the way manufacturers quote them. Real-world charging varies with temperature, battery state and the charger itself.
7.4 kW or 22 kW?
Which cable does
the MG4 EV need?
The MG4's onboard AC charger is 6.6kW single-phase as standard, which is actually slightly below the 7.4kW most UK home wallboxes are rated for. That means a 7.4kW Type 2 to Type 2 cable is compatible and correct: the car will draw at its 6.6kW limit, and the cable handles that without issue. If your MG4 has the optional 11kW three-phase charger, the picture changes a little.
With the 11kW option fitted, you can potentially charge faster at a three-phase AC point or in a property with three-phase supply. On a standard single-phase domestic wallbox, though, the supply caps at 7.4kW regardless of charger or cable rating, so the optional 11kW charger does nothing extra at home unless you have three-phase power coming in. Check your order specification to confirm whether you have the single-phase or three-phase charger before buying a cable.
What does it cost to charge?
Charging the 64kWh Long Range from empty costs roughly £5 on an off-peak tariff at around 7.5p per kWh, and around £17 at the standard 27p rate. The 51kWh SE Standard costs roughly £4 off-peak and around £14 at standard rates. Both packs use LFP chemistry, so you can charge to 100% without worrying about degrading the battery, which makes overnight full charges entirely sensible. Public rapid charging typically costs 45p to 80p per kWh, making it an occasional tool rather than a regular habit. Always verify your actual tariff rate.

MG MG4 EV FAQs
Good
questions.
Still not sure? Our team will confirm the right cable for your vehicle.
Contact usWhat charging cable does the MG MG4 EV need?+−
The MG MG4 EV has a Type 2 inlet, so it needs a Type 2 to Type 2 cable for UK home and public charging. It charges on single-phase AC at up to 6.6kW.
Can the MG MG4 EV charge at 22kW?+−
Only with the optional three-phase onboard charger. The MG MG4 EV is single-phase 7.4kW as standard, so a 7.4kW cable delivers its full AC speed. If you specified the optional 11kW three-phase charger, choose the 22kW three-phase cable to use it.
What length charging cable should I get?+−
5m suits most home and public charge points. Choose 7.5m or 10m if the charge point is far from your car's charging port or you park on the far side of a bay.
Does the MG MG4 EV support V2L?+−
Yes. The MG MG4 EV supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), so a V2L discharge cable lets you run tools, appliances and devices straight from the battery through the Type 2 inlet, at up to 3.6kW.
What charging cable does the MG4 need?+−
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The standard MG4 charges at 6.6kW single-phase, so a 7.4kW Type 2 lead handles that comfortably. If your MG4 has the optional 11kW three-phase charger and you have a three-phase supply available, a three-phase cable is the better choice to unlock the higher rate at suitable public AC points.
How fast does the MG4 charge on AC at home?+−
The standard 6.6kW single-phase MG4 charges at 6.6kW on a home wallbox, so the 64kWh Long Range takes around 10 hours from empty and the 51kWh SE Standard around 8 hours. Both fit within an overnight window. If your MG4 has the 11kW three-phase option and you have a three-phase supply, fill times drop to around 6 hours and 5 hours respectively.
Can the MG4 rapid charge, and do I need my own cable?+−
Yes, the MG4 rapid charges via CCS at up to 117kW (SE Standard) or 150kW (Long Range). You do not bring your own cable for DC rapid charging: the charger supplies a tethered lead. A 10-80% charge at a compatible rapid charger typically takes 30 to 35 minutes, making the MG4 practical for longer journeys.
Does the MG4 have a single-phase or three-phase charger?+−
The standard MG4 has a 6.6kW single-phase onboard charger. An 11kW three-phase charger is optionally available on some trims. Check your order sheet or the charging settings in the car's menu to confirm which you have before choosing a cable. On a standard UK home supply only single-phase power is available, capping the charge rate at the supply limit of around 7.4kW regardless of which charger is fitted.
